How many deer do you have to see every time in the woods do you fee you need to see to be happy?
How many every week?
How many every season?
Total deer, antlered deer, or antlerless deer?

Just one. Of course it needs to be the right one.
But to answer your question seriously... even on my place there is the rare day I don't see any deer and that is just fine with me. Weeks can go by and I'll not see a deer I want to kill and that is just fine with me too.
There can be two hunters on my place on the same day that have greatly different experiences. The differences in my experiences and the experiences of the guys who hunt one of the farms that borders mine are pretty consistent and have been for the past 10 years. I know why they see less deer than I do and it's not because the deer aren't there.
I empathize with those who don't see a lot of deer and would truly like to know why in each case. Not all chunks of ground are created equal. Not all hunters are created equal.

One is nice to see, more is always a treat. But honestly, I'm just happy to have the time out in the woods. Sometimes I won't see any deer, but I'll see some other wild animal, or a beautiful sunrise. That is what makes me "happy" when hunting.

I've been hunting 30+ years and if I see a deer or two during most hunts, I'm pretty happy. On some hunts, I'll see 10 or more, but I still have those hunts were I might not see a bird or a squirrel, much less a deer.
It's why they call it deer hunting....
Too many guys check their cameras constantly, hunt their 10 acres relentlessly and then complain about not seeing deer....
It boggles the mind...

I love seeing wildlife and manage my property accordingly. Seeing multiple deer per set is preferred. Avg. Set I see 4-6. Last season I had several sets where 20 plus were seen and 2 sets I saw zero. Buck to doe ratio is approx. 2 doe per buck And during seeking/chase phase rut not uncommon to see 5 plus bucks per set. Nov. 16th morning I harvested buck last season I had seen two 1.5 yr olds and a 3.5 yr old prior to taking my biggest buck to date a 165" 12 point. Ironically I found sheds from a 150 class 10 pt. Just 50 yds. From treestand I harvested the 12 point. Pass a lot of young bucks. Don't over harvest our does. Plant lots of food sources and provide plenty of heavy , undisturbed security cover are a few things I attribute good deer numbers here.

The place I hunt isn't 1 of the greatest places for sure so if I see 1 deer the entire gun season I consider it a good year. Most years I'll see some at least 1 day some years I don't see any and there's been a few years, several years back,I'd see some about every day out there. I just love hunting any species whether I see any or not.

I've seen them during bow season, which I don't hunt anymore, and out of season, but they normally hide out in the thicket as soon as the guns start going off. The 4 I've seen were all looking for does though, this year the peak of the rut seemed to be going on stronger here than most years.

Are there really people out there who COUNT the deer they see and keep totals for day, week, month, what ever?
Sounds more like a job.
... or golf.
I don't see NEAR as many as I used to see on the same ground, ANY PLACE, I've hunted the last 20 years.
I'm not happy about that but I don't count them.

I kept a journal for a few years...Date, temp, baro pressure, wind speed and direction, location and number/time seen of deer.

Now that I almost hunt exclusively my own farm the only time I keep a journal is for new stand locations. Once movements are figured out I just file in "my cloud". Lol

I've completed the Indiana Archer's survey the last few years. They want to know how many hours hunted and what/how many animals you see, not only deer. It's fun to do and I enjoy looking back at my recordings.

I have some pretty decent deer numbers where I hunt. Some days I'll see around 15 different deer, other days I'll see 0. I can sometimes hunt a week or more and see none. I could bring someone out in firearms season and they'd swear that there were no deer here. I know there are lots of deer here, so the days I see none don't discourage me a bit. I'd prefer NOT to have the opportunity to kill every time I went out, otherwise it becomes killing and not hunting.

Here's the bowhunter survey...no idea how you can get yourself sent one, but I enjoy filling it out after each hunt.
