Hey all, looking at purchasing a UTV within the next month or so. Trying to do my research now.
Anyone here have one, if so what do you have and what are your thoughts?
I am really liking the Polaris Ranger 570 full size.
Seems like used ones have no depreciation... I can't believe the price some of these people are asking on CL. They cost more than I could buy a new one for including their accessories and they're 2-6 years old!

I've only got experience with 3 brands. At work we have john deere gators and they aren't much in my opinion. They don't seem to have much power and they are always breaking down. We just spent over 2 grand rebuilding the transmission and other parts on one of them. We also have a newer kubota at work and it is very nice. It has the enclosed cab with heat and AC. My Dad has a Cub Cadet that is around 8-10 years old I think. It has been very reliable. We have had to replace one spark plug. That is the only thing that has had to be done to it other than normal maintenance. It has a lot of power. I use it to drag 20" diameter 7' long osage logs up hills and through fields. It is only 2 wheel drive but it has the locking rear differential.

I do like kubotas and drove them when I was on the grounds crew at ipfw. They have a lot of power but the off-road capabilities are a bit rough.
I've gotten pricing on A John Deere and it was rather high. I just don't like how the foot room is hindered by the wheel well and the dash is pretty low. I feel like a cab would be pretty bulky vs some of the others that are designed a little more for a cab.
I forgot to mention that I love the Honda pioneer but they are salty as well. I like the real gear driven transmission and the option to have two seats in the bed but new they are pretty expensive.

I bought a Polaris 500 mid size in 2013 and love it. Went with the 500 over the 400 because of fuel injection....The single cylinder sips gas compared to my 800 Polaris sportsman ATV.
Not an ounce of trouble out of it and I can't imagine not having one now.

I have a kawasaki mule 610. It is decent off road( 4wd and locking diffs). But it has no power and it doesn't haul a lot. It's the baby in the mule family.

I'm really wanting to hook a 7x10 trailer up to it with a decent pile of logs on it. Think it would have any issues?

I have seen a few of those for a decent price but the no power would be a killer for me. Do they have decent suspension. Or is it pretty rough getting through tough terrain?

I also have a Kawasaki 610 and in my opinion it has plenty of power as 3 of my neighbors can testify to that after I pulled their trucks, one out of a snow bank and two out of muddy corn fields. It's not good in deep snow but you just need to avoid bad situations. I once rented a portable cherry picker and I used the mule to pull it around my place to stain my house and trim trees. They are not a fast jump over hills kind of vehicle but they are a work horse, mine is 10 years old and so far has been maintenance free except for the battery.
I would recommend a good 2" receiver for your towing needs.

I have a 2007 610 mule and a 2013 ranger crew 800. Go with polaris, in my opinion its twice the machine the mule is. The power difference is night and day. I gave the mule to my 80 year old mother to get the mail daily, the polaris plows snow and hauls hunting and farming gear.

I pull my cornpro trailer with mine...12' long and maybe 1300lbs for the trailer and another 2000lbs in stuff the heaviest I've pulled. The biggest problem you will have pulling super heavy loads is the rear independent suspension. It will collapse under too much weight.
But no, I've never felt the need for more power.

I've got a 2012 Polaris 500 that I use the heck out of around the farm. Have a broadcast seeder for it and pull drop fertilizer spreader doing food plots. Also a lot of general hauling of seed, fertilizer, firewood, tools, garden and landscape stuff, etc. This machine has pretty much been bullet proof and has worked flawlessly. All I've ever had to do is put gas in it and change the battery out once.
I like the Polaris bench seat -vs- buckets for riding three on occasion, also like the fuel injection. I put a plastic top cover and windshield on mine and would recommend you do the same.

I'm not asking for a RZR like ride but I've been impressed driving in a ranger over some pretty rutted up and pothole filled fields. Just didn't know if it felt like a solid axle or if it absorbed things pretty well.

It being hydraulic, made easy work of it. I have attempted to do more than my 570 Polaris could handle, and the wheels would just spin even with my big butt on it. Tried the same thing with donkey and the tow straps broke. I really like my Polaris 570, but I rarely go over 20mph. It was recommended to me to not use the high gear in these conditions. It will save wear on the belt to run in low most of the time. As far as power goes, I'd get as much as I could afford. If I had Woody's money, I'd get the biggest beast offered.

Aren't you curious what I was trying to pull that broke the straps?
