What the heck, I'll share all but location Single split shot two foot above a cricket just off the bottom drifting.....twenty feet of water. Found em on accident once taking a break drifting with line in the water. Every pass we were picking up 2-4 or more

How you run the hook though the cricket...from bottom to the top or top to bottom? What size hook?

Prarie Creek near Muncie is a good crappie and white bass lake. Get a boat where you can enjoy them all!

Got my eye on a small Bass Hound boat. They have some pretty good reviews.
On a happy note: my wife, while looking in some of her "secret places", following our move, found $800.!! Remembered that I'd given it to her to stash away after selling a guitar last year! So, I may just get a new rod & reel too!!

Just enough split shot to sink it...4-6# test Used the same technique on a few lakes in Southern Michigan to get some big 'gills. Side scan Hummingbird, we were anchored and could see schools of fish swimming past in deeper water. Small 'gills were shallow, bulls were deeper. No fish on side scan, no bites.

I've owned lots of boats, and currently have four plus a canoe and two kayaks. For an all around, good, safe, 2 man fishing boat it is hard to beat a 14' aluminum vee bottom with a 10-15 hp outboard.
Only accessories necessary are; a fish finder, some decent seats, anchors and oars. A big mistake I see guys trying to customize these small aluminum boats adding carpeted decks, additional batteries and trolling motors, rod holders and all kinds of junk. All of this stuff adds too much weight and negatively impacts the boats performance and safety.
Jon boat of the same size would be OK, but Summit will get some decent waves, and the vee bottom will handle them much better and safer.

Boats and boat motors are like pole barns you should always get one bigger than what you think you can get by with.

The nice thing about 14' and smaller aluminum boats is you can manhandle them; load and unload trailer on marginal boat ramps, flip it upside down on the trailer for winter storage, drag it up on the bank, etc. Can't do that with a bass or walleye boat.
