Does any one know if you can put an eletric/battery start on a.wood splitter?
I just.can not.get mine to start in cold temps. Once it gets warm after running.no problem restarting it or if the temps are in the 50's. Just thought an eletric would turn it over longer and faster till it started.
Thanks for all input.

You try a shot or two of starting fluid?
I've seen adapters where you use an electric drill on top of the motor where the recoil starter is, but other than that, I think it's pretty involved, and it might require changing the engine.....

Open all Hyd valves while trying to start it... The cold Hyd fluid is slowing down the motor is my guess

Be sure you have good FRESH gas and put a hotter spark plug in it.

Yep, problem is the hydraulic fluid as stated. If you can keep in warm garage or point a salamander on the resevoir for a while, it will start like new. Been there and done that many a time over the years.

I've just used corded drills on the flywheel if you can get to it. Works good for motors your trying to work on that you don't have a starting point for the jets. Just turn the motor over with drill while adjusting the needle to get a starting point.

It's definitely doable, but you may have to swap the complete engine? My new snow blower has a deal where you plug a 110V cord into it to crank it over with a push button starter, if you don't want to pull start it.
My splitter is tough to start when cold too. I disengage the hydraulic pump and give it a little shot of start fluid and that helps a bunch, usually 2-3 pulls max.

My dads is belt driven , so you could take the belt off ,start it, let it warm a little ,replace belt and start again. His was a motor off a riding lawn mower with ele. start already on it, so it wasnt a issue. Its now pto driven off the Farmall 656.
