I always wear one. I have a vest type that's easy to put on in the dark.

Always when I'm in a tree. Never when I'm on the ground.

Always when I'm in a tree. Never when I'm on the ground. I use a Seat of the Pants harness (Fastback) and a Seat of the Pants CLIMBING SYSTEM. I'm protected from a fall all the way up, in the stand and all the way down.

I use a harness anytime I hunt in the morning just incase I fall asleep in my ladder stand. Always use one while in a climber. I rarely use one in a ladder stand in the evening. I use precaution and I am aware of the danger but I feel secure in the evening without one.

I have to admit that I do not. I figure when it's my time to go, it's my time to go and deer hunting is one of my two choices to be doing something when I die. I'll let you figure out what the other one is . I know I'll get rapped on the knuckles for it, I just never do wear one.

I almost always wear one now. I hope I never have to depend on it, but even if I don't, it still helps with my dislike of heights.

Like you Mbogo, I too HATE heights, therefore I always wear one. I use the Hunter's Safety System vest. It's a LOT nicer than fighting those web contraptions!

I chuckle when I hear someone say something like, "I want to die doing something I love...yada yada yada...." I LOVE to hunt, but I sure don't wanna die because of it!!! Not wearing a harness is like throwing some antler sheds on your head and walking through the woods during firearm season in Hoosier National......... If you have a family you should wear one, even if you don't care about your own life.

I guess I'm just the type that believes if it's my time to go, it's my time to go and it really doesn't matter if I'm wearing a harness or not. But, when we get an opportunity to sit down over a beer, I'd love to tell you my life story. You'd get an idea as to why it's no big deal to me. However, I will teach my children to wear a safety harness when they become old enough to go into the stand.

Would it be ok with you to sit in a wheel chair and watch everyone else go hunting while all you can do is slobber all over yourself? Do yourself and your family a favor and get a harness.

Let me put it another way. You could be lucky like I was and not break anything. Then you might also live to be as old as me (65) and have nights where you cannot sleep because the hip you landed on feels like the worst toothache you ever had and nothing you take makes the pain go away. But as said by others, mainly you owe it to your family and loved ones. Why should they have to suffer a misguided ego? ?

But as said by others, mainly you owe it to your family and loved ones. Why should they have to suffer a misguided ego? ? Wow, don't even know me and I have a misguided ego? I have fallen from a tree stand. I've been in car wreck in which the vehicle flipped 7 times with no seatbelt on and the window down and walked away. I've been in numerous situations where I should have been hurt but wasn't. It's not an ego thing. It's a belief that I have. I guess using your argument then anyone that smokes or drinks would also have a misguided ego? For that matter, why even walk into the woods during gun season? People get shot during deer season. Is that a misguided ego if they don't wear Kevlar? People get hurt all the time just driving to work even when wearing seat belts. Should they stop driving to work? There are all types of inherently dangerous things in this world. How you deal with them is entirely up to that individual. It's not an ego thing. It's a personal decision based upon the person's level of comfortability with the situation. My idea of a misguided ego is thinking that your beliefs are all inclusive for everyone. When I get to the point where I'm not comfortable being in a tree stand without a safety harness, that's when I'll make the decision to wear one.

Thanks TS, Florida is nice for a few days but then I am ready for the peace and solitude of Southern Indiana. I know this isn't the right place for this "but" while I was gone a buck rubbed some of the devils walking sticks right along my driveway. ;D

... People get hurt all the time just driving to work even when wearing seat belts. Should they stop driving to work?... I think that should be a new State Law, give me a tax break cause I quit driving to work to reduce the # of commuters, less gas consumption, less pollution, less chance of me dieing in a car accident!!!!! Afterall I owe it to my family to be safe! ;D

Hey Woody:
Do you have a web site for that type of safety system you speak of?
