Just curious if anyone has a used garmin tracking system they aren't using anymore. I currently acquired a squirrel dog and wanted to make sure where she was at all times. LOL Been a rabbit hunter most of my life so this is new to me.
Woody- If this isn't allowed here and should be in classifieds just let me know. Just thought I would start in the small game group first. Thanks

I don't know about a tracking system, but I saw this recently from Garmin and it made me drool. buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/560327/pn/010-01733-00I hate pulling my phone out to take a gps fix. Having it on my wrist would be straight out of Star Trek and James Bond for me.

I run the alpha with the tt15 minis now on my beagles. I have a Tek system I'm looking to sell but I have 5 collars. Either one of the three I can find you all day used. The alpha with minis is going to be more expensive that the full size. Astro cheaper. Not to tell you what to do but I know alot of guys get the Astro, just track, and regret it and wish they got both. Let me know what you're looking for specifically and I'll find it.

Well that's what my hold up is. I have a shock system for training my beagles. I've heard a lot of good things from the alpha and a lot of guys I've talked to said they regret getting the astros. Main thing is it's a little under twice as much. I was looking for something cheap to get started and if everything works out with the dog then I'll invest in a lot better system. Hope that makes sense.

Hope that makes sense. Okay so heres where we are at then. You basically have two choices on the track only. The Astro or the old beep beep system to track. I'd forgo the old beep beep system. I'd assume you're running some type of cur hound, again assuming 17+"? You can very easily use the Astro and the shock system you have for the beagles on a dog that size. I've seen guys run both on 14" beagles. But.... If you think you even might want the alpha system id wait. You'll end up spending money twice if you go Astro and then upgrade. There isn't a whole lot of value on the Astro anymore. Yeah you'll see them priced high but just because some people are more proud of them than what they are worth. You can get a sportdog Tek 1.0 track and train system used for relatively cheap anymore. What you get with those are I'm here, the dogs there. No maps, no speed, just here and there. Investing in the alpha you can run on both dogs also. Guess my question would be if you don't run one on the beagles why run one on the squirrel dogs? I know zilch about squirrel dogs, just interested. Don't know where u are located but if you're close to Lawrence county sometime I'd be more than happy to meet up and show you both the Tek 1.0 and the alpha on how they work. Guess I'm probably getting into more of a discussion than you were looking for. If you want an astro let me know. I'll get you in contact with one.

One correction, the tek does show speed...and direction of travel. It also alerts you when dog is treed(stopped) plus you can mark your parking spot to find your way back
