Hey everyone! I am in the process of training my Brittany to hunt sheds. We are finishing up the process of him finding the dummy antler (made w/ dummy material to prevent shed-shyness) and I am needing a small to medium sized real shed antler. This shed's purpose is to condition the feel of a real antler in their mouth. I personally have never found a shed on my own and do not have any. I was wondering if anyone on here has one that they'd be willing to part ways with? Like I said, I only need a small/medium sized shed. I am more than happy to meet up (I live in Noblesville area but am willing to drive a bit), pay you for the antler, pay you for shipping, etc. Just looking to finish the shed hunting training by the time those deer really start dropping em.

Don't want to come across as being too rude, but if you have never found a shed, you aren't likely to have much luck teaching a dog. You need to know how to find them too.
Observe around your area where the deer have been concentrating and feeding from about Christmas thru March and that is where you will find sheds. Then it's a simple matter of boots on the ground, lots of walking, getting out there and looking. Guys that have good shed dogs still find more visually themselves than their dogs do. The ones their dogs find are just a bonus, and dogs sometimes find sheds via scent in tall weeds that we would walk right past without seeing.
Starting about mid February get out there a lot walking with your dog and you can probably find a shed or two.

Actually had an auto-correct typo in my original post it seems: I have never found a shed OF my own. I do not have my own land so I've always given any sheds I've come across to the landowner (although its been about 5 years since I last found one). I'm familiar with knowing where to look and everything, just need a hard antler that ain't from PetSmart to let him get the feel. If we don't find many, its fine. Likewise, I don't harvest much game, but I still hunt, just about being outside and in nature for me.

I've never found one. All I know to do is look everywhere I can on the land I have. I was hoping some would drop as they jump over the food plot fence, but they never have. Possibly they are in the bedding area, and I'm just not going in there.

We have a prescribed burn plan on the farm. We burn in the neighborhood of 20 acres a year, rotated on a 3-year schedule.Out of all that grassland we have never found a shed. You would think as much time as they bed in the grass the sheds would be there but they aren't. Wade

From the videos I have seen of deer shedding their antlers the use their back foot and kick at them. So they could come off whenever they seem to have a itch to kick them off.

If that doesn't pan out, let me know. I think I still have a couple small ones in the garage I found a couple years ago, but I'd have to double check. I'm in Fishers so I'm not far.
