$11k per tillable acre is the highest I've heard around here. $15.5k an acre for a home and shop is pretty salty....but I say that sitting in a house on 1.2 acres I paid $32k for the lot.

Just looked up land prices in Indiana, average tillable $9266 an acre, so I would assume is 20k and some is 1k. But like you said , it's worth what someone will pay.

Hard to wrap my head around how money is made farming ground that costs that much... at 150 bushels (give or take 40 bushel) per acre and 4$ per bushel I agree.

I've had no hard feelings towards the owners( which are friends of over, well since I was born, 55yrs) ) or the new owner. They both have done what anybody in the same situation would would do. The owners are getting up in age with declining health issues and doctor bills with the Mrs's having 3 stroke in the last year and a half.and is just to much for them to take care of. I have offered many many times to lease, but they would not hear of it. The new land owner had the means to obtain the property.
They both offered to help with finding new property for my son and me to hunt. But its late in the season and most have people hunting already.
I will get out and knock on doors, its a matter of time until we find a place to hunt. In the mean time I will keep on working on buying my own property.
Congrats to those that have had success !!! and Good luck to those that are still in pursuit !!! In one way you could say that my hunting season will be longer than most, until I can find a place !
In the words of Gundude (I will hunt on).

there is still good hunting ground available for 2-3k an acre. I just looked at 80 acres by Laurel (Brookville res. area) for 2500/acre. Ground in Parke routinely goes for 3k/acre. Tillable or decent timber is a different story, but this is not flood ground, either. I know of a few pieces of ground between 100-200 acres that went for 1850/acre, it is out there maybe just not exactly a 10 minute drive from your door.

Then find an old fat handicap guy to invite over for a cookout.

Sucks and I know it is a matter of time before same occurs for me and Pops on our best spot...next year...10 years no way of knowing.
I did nab some ground this past year though cheap...but it has high potential of being developed all around in the next 10-20 years....we shall see though.
Keep on keeping on brother.

Well a 24 year old guy bought the property, more power to him. I've heard he wants to build on it and put up a pole barn for his heavy equipment business. Luckily I still have another spot 5 minutes from home about 10 acres I can hunt, just no water source on it which is important in dry years. Sounds a lot like the urban spot I hunt. I stil have access but it is only a matter of time before someone makes an offer the owner can't refuse.

I don't doubt it at all. Land prices in this state are getting out of control. Years ago I bought 60 acres for 20k, today who knows. My Dad bought 5 acres of woods and swamp 40 years ago that we just started hunting on about 10 years ago. It has produced at least 1 deer every year we've hunted it for at least one of us. I told him not to sell it unless he gets enough from that sale to buy a bigger property elsewhere. Up here around my AO, land prices have skyrocketed too... Except for the land my dad owns and wouldn't mind selling so he can buy a bigger plot, of course.
