I'd say a significant portion of the deer checked in are killed illegally. So you are saying a significant portion of hunters are poaching lawbreakers then I don't think so !

Does not matter if it's politics, cards or hunting, there will always be those who cheat, accept it and go on. It started with that darn Eve woman. I'd agree the bulk of hunters are very honest. I am one of those who wondered how the online checking would play out but am now one who likes it.I'm not sure there is even one check station left inmmy general area anymore so they won't be coming back.

Check stations are still in business. They do use the Online Check in there too. www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/6271.htm

I would like to point out the OP's question was with regard to how many deer get killed. (he never mentioned poaching) A poached deer that is checked in is a counted deer in the harvest. So if 100,000 deer are checked in and 50,000 of them are poached/illegally shot then you have 100,000 dead deer, not 150,000 dead deer. Thanks for making that clear again! Lol,we got a little off topic.

My reference to poached deer only referred to those that are not checked in, not those that are killed illegally but still checked in.

My point is that our laws are so numerous it can be easy to break one without realizing it. Not the point that of this thread, Kerry on.

I'd say a significant portion of the deer checked in are killed illegally. So you are saying a significant portion of hunters are poaching lawbreakers then I don't think so ! I would say the number of deer killed while baiting, killed outside of shooting hours, deer checked in by someone other than the person who actually killed it, killed while trespassing, or killed with an illegal weapon could easily account for several thousand of the deer that get checked in.
