Grew up in the country, never thought twice about tick bites and other things like them. Kinda laughed when a kid in school would mention going to the dr after getting bit. Anyways, my KY deer was covered in ticks. Sometime between Sunday and yesterday one of em got me and left a weird wound behind. Sitting at convenient care waiting to get looked at now. Like I said, I've never thought twice about plucking a tick off but I personally know 2 people that were hospitalized in the last year from some sort of tick issues.
Just wanted to give a heads up. Don't forget about them just because it's gotten colder outside.

Hopefully all turns out well, but always better to be safe than sorry with those things.

A friend brought me his buck head and cape for a skull mount. The hide was covered in ticks. I've never seen that many on a deer. The 3 I killed this season didn't have any that I saw.

Every deer I've killed this year has been covered. In the 30 minutes it took to skin the head of my 9 point out for a European mount I had 3 crawling on me. He had so many on his back when we loaded him into the back of the Ranger than he looked like a razorback hog.

Mine and Span's had ticks all over them too. My bro-n-law had one crawling on him opening morning when it was 26 degrees out, without gutting a deer...nasty things.

Hunting Friend of mine contracted a case of Lymes Disease a few years ago. Found a Tick on the backside of his leg which had the classic red bullseye he was sick for several months.

Not all tick diseases start with a rash. You can just start showing symptoms. www.in.gov/isdh/23323.htmA nurse practitioner I used to work with has developed an allergy to red meat, caused by a bite from a lone star tick. Be careful out there.

I get scolded for that all the time.

Wonder how the lowly tick got to be so destructive to mankind? As 3ptbuck said at the beginning of this thread, when I was a kid I was always pulling ticks off of me and never even thought anything about it.Never made me itch or get a sore that wouldn't heal for months, Granted the lone star tick wasn't around here back 40 years ago just the brown dog tick. If I do get a tick bite on me today it can take up to 3 months for the bite to completely heal and stop the insane itching it causes. I literally have scars on my body from today's tick bites. When and how did ticks go from just basically an annoyance to the possibility of causing one to have to quit eating meat and a life of very painful body aches to even death.
It has been 7 years since I had a serious what I thought was a brush with death and to this day the doctors could never tell me what was the cause. It was starting to be fall and I was at my parents house for a family get together and I started feeling bad. Went home thought I was getting the flu. Bad body aches and just felt bad. The next day I felt like I had been beaten with a ball bat. Finally after feeling this way for several days I went to the doctor and he thought the same probably the flu. He gave me a shot and some pills and I went home. The next day I was feeling even worse and my urine had the shocking color of very very dark yellow-red. Went back to him and he sent me straight to the hospital for more test. This was the beginning of three months of pure hell. I didn't leave my bed or couch except for the 4 nights I was in the hospital. They tested me for every disease known to man. I know they pulled at least a gallon of my blood in this time just doing test on it. One test they did they said I had something that had to do with birds, but they soon said it was not that. I lost 40 lbs didn't ever feel like eating or doing anything. After 20 or more visits to many specialist doctors who pulled blood and did cat scans, mri's on me I told my wife that enough was enough. I was through with them that I wasn't doing anymore test that I would either get over it or I was going to die. I really thought it would be the death of me. I had so many bottles of pills and meds that I couldn't even remember what to take. I quit it all. About a week went by and I started to feel better and started to eat a little. It took some time but I have completely recovered. To this day I always thought it was something to do with a tick, but I was tested for every tick borne disease that ticks could cause with many repeated test and always testing negative. I still think it was caused some how by a tick bite.
