I don't mind the cold, but I won't drive 65 miles to sit in the wind no matter what. I do remember three years ago on opening day when it was 70+ and really windy. My tree started to sway and branches were falling, I got out of the woods like it was on fire. We all went home that afternoon due to being afraid that the cabin would not be safe to stay in. I may be done for the year. I did a State Park hunt on year on a really windy day; had a whole tree come down 60ish yards away from me (can't remember distance exactly) all I know is it sure got my attention. Be aware if you're out on Saturday.

With the two small tornadoes last month there are a lot of widow makers hanging in the trees. I'm staying out of the woods Saturday and maybe go out Sunday. If you in the woods with the high winds, please watch out for the widow makers.

On the down wind side of the woods on the ground seems like the place to be tomorrow. Both kids have colds so I will be flying solo. The question is, do I go to Starke county or Jasper?

Terrible winds in LaPorte cnty as predicted. Had 2-3" of snow on ground at one point. Now down to coating but still looks great. Took 40# venison in to "Zicks" Specialty Meats for BBQ jerky, bologna, and stix. One of the best places around! Stopped by folks to check for deer sightings. Wind is suppressed by the woods. Think I will go back and sit with the Excal xbow again. My other spot is open and would be blown away by the wind.

Well, it was about time. Finally had deer around. Actually saw 11 total, only 2 were close enough. Let a small buck walk at 10yd. Then a nice doe followed and veered off, stopping at 24yd broadside. Took the shot, heard the hit, then she ran about 20yd and stopped. I lost sight but never seen anymore movement. I waited till dark, then slipped in to see the shot sight. Big pile of hair but no blood. I backed out for a half hour, returned, and picked up blood a few yds into it. She went another 20yd and died. The Slick Trick Mag made a hole like a 12ga slug. Awesome. Had my wife help me get her out in a wheel barrow and my boy work the flashlight. Finally worked out after 2 seasons of trying to get a neighborhood deer! Very fun getting eye to eye with them on the ground in the homemade guillie suit. I loved it!

Congrats on the deer!!! I elected NOT to go out opening morning in Northern Wi. 18 degrees, sideways snow in 40 mph winds didn't appeal to me. Ended up staying at the house and shooting a forkhorn at 20 yds with the .243. Neighbor said he was sitting on the toilet and he about hit the ceiling when I shot. The other guys only saw 2 does and that was it.
