I found one place he crossed a log and there was a little bit of flesh, then nothing. I walked the way I thought he'd gone and found nothing. Hands and knees with a spray bottle of peroxide, nothing. I don't understand it. Feeling like a total failure in all things hunting right now. hum

You need to stop all hunting and use that time to figure out what going on with your gun. Then get back to hunting.
Let add this little advice.... You don't have to share everything you do good or bad on the Internet.

You should call that mod from snipers hide that made a 600 yard double lung and heart shot on a deer at full sprint.
He probably has some good advice. Or at least entertaining.

I would continue looking for that buck if it's still permissioned ground. Blood looks of fatal wounded. Then work on gun. I spent alot of money and time in September finding what my gun liked. I'm iron sight though.

Were you able to save the meat from the doe you shot the day before?
Did you find the button buck?
I have shot a lot of deer but I never knew their genealogy.
A BIT OF ADVISE: you need to practice all your woodsman skills.

There are some lessons a hunter has to learn the hard way. The lessons may be different to each hunter, and come at different times, but the important thing is you learn from them.
