Woody, In my opinion Savage makes one of the most accurate rifles out of the box, period. My .243 is a Savage American Classic and it shoots lights out. Congratulations! You will really like this rifle.

You're going to be the one pouting when you get your bill for outfitters fee. I charge by deer seen and points on rack. Make sure Wyatt knows this ain't a no kill no pay operation. 4 deer, 20 yards, SMH!!!

Been doing some research on the .243 today. Goes either way depending on who you talk to. Seems bullet is key factor. I'm a shoulder shot guy and most lean towards the hornady or core-lokt bullet. Most of the negativity on the .243 on deer stems from older bullet configuration designed mainly for varmints. Most I read okay a shoulder hit with the new bullets but caution it WILL ruin meat. Can't see it doing more damage than the 185 grain did.

I have processed 100's of shotgun deer in Indiana, now 100's of rifle deer in Minnesota. The 243 and 25-06 and similar rounds are devastating on meat when shooting deer in the shoulders. The larger calibers can as well but not like the smaller calibers. Biggest complaint I hear on 243 is lack of blood trails when shot in the shoulder and not leaving exit hole on off side.

100 grain winchester soft point worked well on my buck and tree. plenty of blood with my shot and it did not exit.
