Let me start by apologizing for being a lurker and taking advantage of this great forum. I have been following this board since the summer months, and have reading most posts. Im relatively new to hunting and have been following all of the great communication from wesb and the guidance provided from all of the experienced hunters on here. Wesb, I saw you got your first doe. I was wondering if you can give the full story. Thanks!

Welcome. Great place to be. Its most informative and very little tongue lashing. Woody keeps a tight leash on trouble, so feel free to ask away without worry. Most all will be willing to help with questions.

Nothing to apologize for - I've lurked boards for a couple of years before signing up.

Well for starters I aquired a new place to hunt a couple weeks ago. With no time to scout the land owner walked me around and has an elevated blind already setup from when he use to hunt. I saw some tracks near that blind and decided to use it and quickly took a liking to it as I started seeing deer out of it almost immediately. Fast forward to my 2nd weekend hunting there I had a 4 day weekend starting Thursday of last week. Had a doe come from behind me cruising along but at only about 20 yds. Hit the grunt tube a few times and she came right back. Got a shot on her but due to some error I missed. Next day, Friday, saw 5 or 6 deer. Including a buck chasing a doe. Had him at 33 yds briefly. He began walking away but again I hit him with some "meh" and he started to circle back. Blew some grunts and bleats and got him a little closer but behind trees and brush so no shot but very exciting. My next day hunting on Sunday I was in the blind for a little over an hour. After listening to what I knew was deer walking around behind me for roughly 15/20 mins her and a little one got in view just to the right of me at about 15/20 yds. I patiently waited for her to give me a shot but wasting no time as she quarted away from me I knew it had to be right now. I steadied the xbow on the ledge of the window, got her in sight, analyzed the angle and let it fly. Held on the follow through watching the arrow hit and I knew immediately the shot was good. Waited 45 minutes to get down and couldn't find any blood. As I headed in the general direction she went I got worried because I still didn't see blood. As I circled around to head towards the trail to more than my delight there she lay. What a beautiful sight. The culmination of hard work and time spent learning from other hunters and being in various woods.

I'm aiming towards getting a buck now. I don't know exactly how many does are around the property I'm hunting yet so I want to hold off on another until towards end of season. That doesn't mean I can't get another deer on the ground this weekend though. Thanks a bunch guys
