what a shame. So many great hunts on this former public property over the last 20 years. Likely the best public hunting and fishing spot in Indiana for many years.

used to be 12,500 acres at it's peak. Some of the best hunting and fishing around. Peabody is bankrupt and desperate and selling off land like crazy now.

They have some awesome properties for sale. Would be a great chance to pick up a recreational or retirement property at a pretty reasonable price.
If you're mad about this, you can blame the likes of Obama and Hillary who are doing everything within their power to put coal and Peabody out of business. Peabody is being forced to sell off properties like this to keep afloat.

You could easily go from your dream retirement property, to a retirement home.

Also don't forget that Chancellor is sitting on all that coal with the equipment to go get it. As soon as the prices go up, and they will, they will be digging again. The head of Peabody is from Australia. Peabody didn't file for bankruptcy in Australia. I've been told that they are doing all of this to get out of being an American company. FWIW.

"What’s driving the coal industry into bankruptcy is the free market — competition from cheaper, more abundant natural gas and renewable energy. Meanwhile, the costs of mining coal have increased. Coal production decreased in 2015, and the Energy Information Administration projects it will fall an additional 16 percent this year.
Coal is just no longer a profitable industry in the U.S."

Coal production decreased in 2015, and the Energy Information Administration projects it will fall an additional 16 percent this year. Coal is just no longer a profitable industry in the U.S." RIGHT,,,, THE COST OF MINING COAL HAS INCREASED because of the Government EPA mandated rules and regulations. That is a huge factor that's forcing coal mines and coal fired power plants out of business. I see it daily at several mines I do reclamation for. Some of the jobs the Army Core of Engineer make these mines do is pointless but they are achieving their goals and that's anything that cost these mines money. And this thread is a prime example. The ground off of the HWY 41 Linton Dugger exit, Busler Creek area that used to be public ground but no longer is. This ground was taken back from the State well before Peabody was having money trouble. Do you know why it's no longer public ground. ? The Core made Peabody spend over 2 million dollars on that project making it a "better wetlands". Trust me it's not better. Your public land is no longer public and Peabody flushed over 2 million down the drain that they now couldn't afford to flush. The Core has some pretty stupid codes they have created for mitigation ditches and wet lands. Peabody pays us to eradicate cattails in the wet lands and mitigation streams, along with phragmites because these plants are non native. I have never seen a swamp or wet lands that didn't have cattails and now recently phragmites. They sure make it rough for the mines to get back the millions and millions of bond money they put up just to get the coal out of the ground that makes the power we all have to have in life. When power is no longer made by burning coal but using cheap natural gas do you think your electric bill will get cheaper,,,,, I don't. Hilary has already said when she's elected that there's going to be many coal mine and coal miners out of business. www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2016/may/10/context-hillary-clintons-comments-about-coal-jobs/
