Good idea or bad idea to use buck grunts or estrus bleats on public land right now?

Depends on what public ground how heavilybis your area hinted? And I've called some in before with buck grunts and estrous bleats!

I only grunt or bleat if I know I'm the only one in the woods or if I'm in private woods. I don't want to have another hunter think I messed up their hunt by making noises because not everyone believes in doing so. Ooh, I can rattle them in too. LOL

The more they've seen and heard all the tunes and tricks and smells you can buy at Walmart the less good of an idea it is.

LOL The scariest time I ever recall in the woods was when I was walking out in the dim light and another hunter would grunt everytime I took a step. I could stand there quietly, and it was silent. But the moment I would start walking, the grunting would start. I was pretty uneasy as I changed direction and slowly worked my way out of range and in a wide arc around him.

when in my 1st or 2nd year I was waiting for my buddy after an evening hunt. As he was walking accrost the field I could have swore he was a deer. Luck for both of us we were well aware of gun safety and I never once shouldered the gun.
After that we decided to always have a small light on when walking out. Deer don't carry flashlights!

And like duff said carrying a flashlight is a good idea too.

This brought back a funny memory. Saw a nice buck one time and after failing miserably in my attempt to mentally will it in closer, I pulled out the handy dandy grunt tube. Must of had it on the wrong setting cause that buck bolted like I just told it i was a big buck who identifies as a doe. Never did see him again.
