open sights or scoped? I have not shot my muzzleloader in 5 yrs I bet but used to be a tack driving machine with 90 grains of pyrodex and a 250 grain xtp bullet. Killed a few out to 130 yrds. Used a cheap 1-4x scope. Best off hand shot was a 90 yard shot. I would think 40 yrds with any muzzloader would be a chip shot. Scoped. I've used Pyrodex,Triple 7 granular and pellets,American Pioneer all used with 2 or 3 kinds of T/C sabots and lubed lead,Powerbelts and from 90g-150g of powder, still don't trust it beyond 40 yards,if I move back to 75 yards it's all over the target and even misses the target some. I'm using a T/C G2 Contender by the way. I won't pretend to know your gun better than you do, but that sounds more like a scope issue to me. Could be that your rail or mounts are loose. I've also had a 12 gauge and a .30/06 wreck scopes where they won't hold zero, which taught me my lesson on cheap scopes.

I'd agree. powder and bullets shouldn't be that far off.

I'm going with scope or mount issues too. Is the barrel clean? I don't even think bad riffling would throw it off that much.

^^^^ I'm going with scope or mount issues too. Is the barrel clean? I don't even think bad riffling would throw it off that much. It's clean,I have to swab it after every shot or the next 1 won't go down all the way,it's not like what a lot of guys say that they can shoot 3 or 4 times before having to swab it. In fact if,I don't give it a good cleaning I can't get a Shockwave sabot down all the way,it's hard to get it down with a clean barrel, that's why when I'm hunting I use a Shockwave for the first shot and follow up with Powerbelts, because they load a LITTLE better, not much though. That's another reason I'm wanting to try the Blackhorn 209 powder, people say that that solves the RING at the bottom of the barrel better.

If you're having that much problem after one shot, your problem is with the barrel. Either the rifling is bad or you have fouling issues you can't see. Maybe a buildup of fouling from the sabots. I'd deep clean and scrub the barrel first before changing the scope, and inspect the rifling.

I've tried deep cleaning it but it didn't help,it's been that way from day 1 and I bought it new,I've been to the point of thinking of getting a new gun and saying the heck with it,needless to say it's been probably 5 years since I've even hunted with it,tired of dealing with it. Maybe I'll send it in to have it thoroughly checked.

I'd try the scope route but still think something is wrong with the barrel. I have a pro hunter and I'm definitely not one to swab between every shot. I use triple seven pellets and shoot sst's, which are pretty much shockwaves. I can go 6-8 shots before and noticeable trouble getting a bullet down the barrel.

Something is not right I can typically shoot 5 or more times without cleaning with the blackhorn 209 powder

Get some JB paste. Clean the barrel really well. Liberally coat a patch with JB, give it 50 swipes thru the barrel. Clean barrel, repeat another 4-5 times. See if that helps make loading easier.

I shoot real black powder, and pyrodex when I get it on clearance just to save my goex. Never an issue loading and shooting multiple times. 6 8 or more.
Something up with that barrel if like that since new.

I would send it to T/C they were very good with the problems the old Hawkins guns had years ago when a batch was released with bad barrels about replacing them if I remember right.

What kind of gun you using? I was using them out of my CVA optima but switched to powerbelts. I had good out comes with them. They recommend you use powerbelts for some reason. Idk what made me switch. CVA and Powerbelts are owned by the same parent company. bpioutdoors.com/

I have a T/C Omega, and it was tough loading from Day 1 with the Shockwaves and sabots that came packaged with the rifle from the factory. You literally had to push the ramrod down the barrel by pressing it against a tree, etc. Seriously. A second shot was darn near impossible. Last year I got tired of dealing with it and sent it back to T/C under warranty. It came back much better.
