Hunting – do you squeeze or punch?
It is a pretty well known fact that if your squeeze your release aid trigger you will normally get better accuracy. The fellow that taught me how to shot a release said “If it doesn’t surprise you going off you aren’t doing it right”.
NOW - In a hunting situation do you “squeeze” or “punch”

I pick a hair on the deer, so to speak, and then just pull the trigger, working fine so far....

I have one of those fancy hand releases with a thumb trigger. I have the tension set real light so it does not take much to fire it, althought I do give it a quick fire. Also, I shoot at deer with both eyes open.

I normally shoot back tension here in the shop for indoor target and outdoor 3d, so when I put the strap on for hunting I am squeesing , pure surprize.

I was a puncher for years till I got really serious about target shooting, and developed a bad case of target panic. I jerked the trigger so bad I gave up archery altogether for several years. Now I have to really concentrate on squeezing the trigger.

For tournaments, and practice, I always use back tention. for hunting it all depends on time available. You don't always have 2-3 seconds for a surprise release.
