WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) — A Lafayette man was injured after falling from a tree stand while hunting in Warren County Thursday.
Seventy-year-old James Hart was hunting in an area near 100 North and U.S. 41 when he fell about 25 feet from a hang-on tree stand about 3 p.m., according to a release from Indiana State Police.
Hart fell after the straps of the tree stand broke. He was not wearing a safety harness.
Police say Hart was lying on the ground for five hours before his hunting partner discovered him. A call reporting the fall was received about 7:40 p.m. Police located Hart just after 8 p.m.
Hart was airlifted to Indianapolis with a broken leg and ankle. Hart also suffered injuries to his head, back and shoulder.
State police say Hart’s condition is believed to be stable.
Conservation officers encourage people to use safety harnesses whenever off the ground.

Thanks for posting 10pt. Hopefully, someone that doesn't use a harness starts after reading. This also good to remind hunters to check your stands before you hunt each year. Straps will deteriorate and break over time.

I feel bad for the guy but, at the same time, no sympathy. What is it that people don't get? A good friend of mine did not use a harness until I told him that I had no interest in raising his kids. He now wears one religiously.
