Guys, moved into a new house this summer that has a gas log. Should i get a blower and use it as a heating source? I don't know anything about them.

In most cases, I don't think a gas fireplace is going to be a very efficient heat source, they are mainly just for aesthetics and to provide the look and feel of a fireplace without the ashes and mess related to wood. Burning that same gas in your furnace will likely get you better value.

I did buy a blower for one of my gas fireplaces, but it is also a full masonry one to burn wood. Some gas burning units are actually insulated well or at least much better than full masonry. However, I like having options.
I remember getting mine from Alaska somewhere. I did have to retrofit it for my gas logs, but it will heat a room.
I remember putting some ceramic bricks??? in there too to retain more heat. Not sure where I got these.
