Go figure...2 days before the season kicks off and some lowlife piece of trash steals my ladder stand and brand new trail camera from Mississinewa. Only stand I had to hunt from and now its gone. Sure wish they hadnt sniffed out the trail camera so I could of seen the scumbag that done it and break my foot off in his arse!!!!!! What a way to kick off the season

Been there and done that. Had my ladder stand stolen back during the mushroom season. This was on my uncles private property where only i have permission to be too. One week it was there and i went back a few days later looking for mushrooms and the thing was gone. Nothing worse then a pos thief. Some places have ladder stands on sale right now. I plan on picking one of the ladders up from Dicks sporting goods. They have one with the flip up seat and big foot rest 50 percent off right now.

It really took some effort to get it out of the house, and through the muddy yard. Little did the thief know that it has a fuel leak and I was just waiting for the laborers to chuck it. I hop it blows up, but doesn't harm anyone but the guilty ones.

Grrr....having just had a brand new trail cam be taken from the middle of my property I can totally identify with hating thieves!!!!
Went and spent money that should/could have been used for something else but I just got two new trail cams AND anti-theft bear boxes to put them in....will re-install on the site that the last one was stolen from only this time there will be some changes and back up-I WILL find out who the thieves are!!!!!

I helped an absentee client put out a nice trail cam overlooking his private gravel road, over 1/4 mile off the public road. Locked bear box lag bolted to the tree, python cable bear box to the tree too. It lasted less than 10 days before everything was gone, python cable and all. The problems ceased when I started making random visits to the property at all times of the week and on the weekends.

My problem is even though I live on my property I also seem to working 12-14 days during the week and then trying to catch up on everything else around the house on the weekend. My new neighbor is retired and pretty much is around his house/polebarn most days though so he may be enlisted as another set of eyes/ears. I'm betting some of my vac packed venison may even sweeten the odds I do plan on putting the second trail cam up high enough that it would take a ladder or climbing gear to get to it...after working in trees and rock climbing for a number of years I think I can probable put something in a place that only unequipped fools would dare to go.

People will steal anything of value anymore. No morals seem to exist in some people. My brother in law just got his 2013 Camaro stolen in Chicago last week. It was later found stripped.

That would help. I put a note on my tree stand (on the tree, above the seat) saying that if they wanted to take the tree stand, that they should smile for the camera first. AND good luck to them trying to find the camera. It stayed where I put it....

I believe most of this preseason theft is from ginseng hunters. Alot of them are shady characters

I sympathize with you. I had a stand stolen 35 years ago and I still get worked up when I think about it. 10 years ago I had a small boat stolen off my pier. I'd still dream about catching the guys who did it and "bringing them to justice". Hang in there and good luck this season.
