No link here, but when hunting remote country, western elk & deer, Alaska, etc. you never gut out an animal. You skin them where they drop, remove quarters, back straps, neck meat, cape & antlers. You make a small incision behind last rib to reach in and get inside loins. The guts stay intact and you leave them, the spine, ribs,lower legs, hide, etc. in the field for the critters to clean up. No point in carrying back stuff you aren't going to eat.
