This is my 4th deer season, and it just gets more fun. I have a couple new hunters that I'm helping this year, and this is the really good part. I get to pass on the things that I've learned here from these old codgers.
We keep learning each season it seems.
A person can spend a lot of money on hunting accessories ...and I like them all! Do I need them, absolutely not, but if a person can afford it, buy what provides that confidence edge with a warm fuzzy feeling.
I almost always have camo on somewhere. I just like it. I don't like black socks with sneakers, so I don't wear them. At my age, no one cares what I have on ...as long as I'm wearing something.
I prefer old faded camo, and this is usually what an old time hunter has given me. I'd rather have the faded stuff than any new pattern. Why? Just because I like it! I like old things, and I have Ella to prove it.
Have you been busted yet?
Last year, I got busted several times, and all by does. They are not distracted like a buck is. One evening, the lead doe of a pack of 5, saw me. I was not moving, and the wind was blowing strongly downwind. She blew at me. I had camo everywhere, but the blob leaning on that tree wasn't there the last time she came through. She didn't know what I was, thus the reason for the blow.
She blew again, so I decided to slowly turn to look in the direction of this wind tunnel. As soon as I moved the slightest bit, she and the girl power herd were out of there.
Had I not move, she would have probably eased around me, but not in the direction they were first headed.
ANYTHING different will put them on edge. It's really simple; if they can't see, hear or smell us, we're good. LOL

1988, didn't know they had rubber then Rubber invented June 15, 1844. Rubber boots production started during WWI. Just a little history. Guess who invented the process to making grubbber? Charles Goodyear. One more little tidbit: "Those Who Do Not Learn History Are Doomed To Repeat It." there's a difference between learning history and being there for it

i have light and heavy camo depending on the temperature. refuse to spend a ton of money on camo. at the end of the day, make sure you have good cover and understand the wind. no matter what type of gear you have and setup with a bad wind, you will get busted 99% of the time.

Found out that after looking at my trail cam pics that some of my Camo is not going to the woods anymore. My new face mask isn't going back too. After getting my card home an looking at the photo's the upper half of me looked like a blob my pants were fine. The shirt an mask was made from the same slinky material. I think i am going to be bring my trail cam home next time to test all my camo out on uv light photos.
anyone ever notice the same?
