I've been hunting for about 3 seasons first season I mainly focused on learning sign out in the field not tht much hunting second year I tried to buckle down on patience in the stand and watching the deers behavior and trying to get them in bow range past on some small bucks and a few yearlings i m focused on taking mature deer only even on public land so this year is gonna be my year I believe I've done my homework and have a few deer patterned it's early season and I would like an honest American ? I recently bought some BDU US ARMY BATTLE FATIGUES IS THIS A GOOD CHOICE FOR EARLY SEASON OR SHOULD I STICK WITH MY MOSSY OAK? I FIGURED SINCE EVERYTHING IS STILL GREEN RIGHT NOW IF I HAD MY STAND IN A GOOD BACK GROUND COVER IT WOULD BE GREAT.

IMHO it does not matter what brand/style camo you wear. Just mind the wind and you will see deer. Hunters been wearing all kinds of clothes for years and killing deer.

Are the BDUs in Multicam, or the previous design? Either would be a better choice than Mossy Oak.

I think modern camo is designed for the human eye and not for the deer. I walked up to my Dad in a tree stand and he looked like a big dark blob until I got real close. I'm not sure what brand he was wearing but it was a newer style. I've been making my own camo outfit for bow season. I made some last year and it worked. I killed deer while wearing it. I'm trying to improve on it this year. I'm focusing on breaking up my outline.
I think you will be fine with whatever design you choose. Good luck this season.

If a person can do it, and can become proficient shooting from, getting high in a tree is the best camo from both a deers eyes and his nose. Personally, Im not a fan of heights so I stay in that 16-18' range max.
Ive never shopped for a camo "pattern" ... all my hunting clothing has been purchased with a need in mind. Warm. Waterproof. Light weight. Breathable. Whatever. Id be just as happy with all of it if it came in drab green.

I'm a proponent of Predator camo. I really like the old Fall Brown that is not available any more. Second choice would be ASAT ..

I'm a proponent of Predator camo. Second choice would be ASAT. Those are my top two picks as well. I'd probably make Vertigo my third choice. I'll admit that 15-20 years ago, I bought into the whole photo-realism propaganda and spent a ton on Mossy Oak Break-Up. Since then, I've learned that the stuff looks like real tree limbs and leaves -- only to humans. I guarantee that deer don't think you're a twisted mess of tree limbs. You are a dark-colored blob. Choose an open pattern with lots of light-colored sections so that the deer see "through" you. Fool them into believing that the dark sections are the solids and the light areas are open air. Without open-pattern camo, your silhouette is still human.

I think your boots are the most important. One that keeps you warn on cold days, ones that keep you cool on warm day, and most important, one that leaves no or close to no sent on the ground. Back around 1988/90 I watched hunter from the property next door cross down his field to the other side. It was around 11am, He had regular working boots. The next morning I was back in my stand and watched a doe walk to the hunters trail and stop. She stood there for 15 or 20 minutes and I could see her hair straighten and get nervous. She turned around and walked back. She went about 50 yards and tried again to cross and once again turn around. The boot left a sent for at least 24 hours.
I always wear rubber boots!

Wind and movement trump any camo pattern.
Deer see a very small spectrum of color, so green or brown mataters not. Honestly, solid orange won't bother them if you are still and mind the wind as long as the orange doesn't start with a magenta base.

I hunt in very open woods, so having a good camo pattern is crucial. Deer, turkey, coyotes and other animals just seem to look right through you when wearing ASAT and predator. I have birds land on my arms and legs more times than I can count. It's comical.
Here's a video from almost exactly 1 year ago when I was surrounded by deer, and not a one saw me filming I was only in a ladder stand. Gets my blood pumping just watching it!

Guess who invented the process to making grubbber? Charles Goodyear. One more little tidbit: "Those Who Do Not Learn History Are Doomed To Repeat It."

I'm not a gadget guy but camo definitely works, and there are good and bad applications. If you have different types at your disposal, I would follow a plan something like this. a. Early season when things are still pretty green, use greener, darker shades. b. Mid season when leaves are turning, go to something with more browns and tans in it. c. Late season when most leaves are gone, the ASAT or skyline type stuff with limbs and white in it. d. Snow camo when snow is on the ground.
But don't let not having this stuff keep you from hunting. Playing the wind correctly, sitting still, being quiet, concealing yourself and having a backdrop behind you is more important than camo.
