How many here have lost arrows in your yard while target shooting? I've had 2 aluminum arrows snaked up under the grass for several years now. Even had my granddaughter look for them- she can usually find about anything.
Amazing how they can seemingly disappear when they hit the ground.

I have a few in my yard and my neighbor (my brothers). I shot a doe a couple years ago, went straight through into the grass. It was on a down hill yard shot and never found the arrow. It was buried in the crab grass. The doe only ran 30 yards. I used a metal rack with no luck. Between the two of us we have 8 acres. I changed to pink fletching and it helps a lot.

Use a pitchfork and run it across the arrow's path.

I just found a crossbow bolt in my back yard when I mowed a section of the field down. I don't ever remember losing one is the strange part

Lost a few over the years, worst part is losing in the woods. One year I shot a nice 8 point at 25 yards, bolt passed thru and hit a limb, shot to the left or right, don't know I didn't see. Never found the bolt but the deer went about 75 yards and ended up in the briars. Bought lighted nocks after that.

I used to shoot into the back bank of our dry ditch in the backyard at leaves, clover heads, or dandelion blooms when too lazy to drag out the Morrell bag target. Well, no more! Buried a crossbow arrow the other day. Still need to locate a metal detector to find that one.

You said it just right; arrows do tend to disappear when they leave the ground. It can make for some very unpleasant surprises during fall leaf removal in Indiana. For that reason, I have never dared to shoot arrows in my yard. I always do target practice at least a short drive from home.

I've always target practiced in my yard... but now that I'll be in the city I won't be able to step out the back door and shoot stuff besides my xbow

Eventually ill get my buddy over with his metal detector to find mine. I lost two in my yard, under the sod. My friend, with a metal detector, found them a good four to five feet from where they hit the ground.......robin

My son, down in Vigo County, stuck a broad head, through a squirrel, about 30' up in a white oak tree last year, and the arrow is still there.........robin

I was out in the woods, and thought I could shoot the arrow into the ground (I switched to a field tip) to unload the x-bow. The arrow disappeared into the ground and even digging down about 8" I couldn't find it. I gave up.
I've also had arrows go under the sod and found them the next Spring. I had one and my buddy had the same thing happen at my place, found 'em both, but each 8 months later.

I just walk around bare foot to find them. Don't try that if tipped w broad heads though. Of course I don't have to worry now, I never miss anymore.

I know there are zero primitive arrows in my yard. Those things are to much work to make just to lose them in the grass. I've spent hours looking for one arrow before.
