I've had trail cam pics of deer and coyote not 10 minutes apart on the same spot. Deer, 'yote, then deer again.
Free ranging dogs on the other hand I haven't seen a pic of a deer in a few hours after dogs were on the trail cam.
Both are fair game when I'm in the stand as far as I'm (and the landowners) are concerned. The private properties that I hunt have landowner edicts, and when I'm hunting them, what the landowner says goes.
What was said about fur prices earlier is correct. Fur prices are WAY down, and trappers will have a hard time making gas money, let alone enough $$ to pay for their time and other supplies. The only fur worth trapping from what I've read is coyote. They are still in somewhat of a demand for trimming garments. Depending where in the USA you trap, some could be worth $80 each skinned, fleshed and properly dried.

Our nasty Indiana coyotes have not seen anything close to the 80.00 mark even when the fur market was strong. The only way I have ever made any money off of Indiana coyotes was before the live market was killed here, and even at 75-100 bucks, you still earned every penny you made if you had to keep then any length of time.

I've never seen one when hunting. My landowner told me to shoot everyone I see, but I don't think there are many around that area now. In three years of trail cams, I've seen two. Apparently years ago, a few of them had his lab pinned down when he shot them.
I think they're pretty animals too, but I'll shoot one given the chance.
I was talking with a fella at one of the forests and he told me to shoot any coyote that I saw. I said, "Well, they're not in season." He said, "Don't tell anyone you shot it."

Shot the coyotes. My retired neighbor just informed me that last Friday morning a 8am the coyotes were yelling and barking up a storm. They watched to coyotes take down a fawn in my field and drag it into the woods.

I shot a deer once and then while waiting for time to expire a coyote came in and I shot it.

The coyote packs were howling in every direction of me on my walk back to my Jeep after legal shooting light tonight. I'd have arrowed one if it had come past my stand. I usually shoot one with my bow every year.

I seem to have way to many of them at the place I'm hunting here in Tippecanoe Cty. If anyone knows any serious coyote hunters that might be able to help me out let me know.

I've been kind of afraid to shoot them because I read an article a couple of years ago that if you kill the alpha you can end up with more because he's the leader of the pack and will run others out.

I'll take my chances on the bigger percentage every time. I just cleared off pics from two trail cams that have only been out 4 days-had pics of coyotes on both of them almost every day/night so I'm going to continue taking them out every chance I get. My T/C 308 fits real easy in the custom holster under my left arm and can easily reach out 250 yards if the need arises...on my own land so those song dogs are fair game anytime!.....now if I just had the time to spend in the woods ...and as I'm typing this all the neighborhood dogs are barking because-YIP-you guessed it!!!.....grrrr....

I have watched coyotes and deer in the same field before as well as turkeys and coyotes. While they didn't takeep their eyes much off each other they overall weren't spooked off. Deer will travel thru after coyotes. Those yotes travel huge areas and likely have been thru that area sometime in the night as well. Deer are used to them. Most yokes won't chase a deer as a single generally can't take down a full size deer. Now later in season when food is more scarce and winter set in they will. I have trapped over 20 the last couple years off our property. You will never thin them out. They are there the same reason your deer are. Cover and food. I have however seen a drastic increase in fawns this year.

I have actually seen a mature buck make a coyote flee. Was watching the buck through a spotting scope and I caught movement out in front of the buck, it was a yote heading straight at the buck. I don't think either knew the other was there from the cover that was in front of them. They came face to face at about 10 yards, the buck lowered his head and stood his ground. The yote turned tail and took off at a trot stopping several time looking back at the buck to see if he was on his tail. It probably was a young coyote.

A friend of mine shot a doe at 8AM this morning, and by the time he found her at 10AM, she already had her guts pulled out and a hind quarter eaten! I have a photo, but it's pretty graphic. Woody can post it if he likes.
