Right now they are saying a high of 85 - ugggh JD is still young enough for the youth hunt, yes? I think it's wonderful how you have helped that young man enjoy the great outdoors.

Hopefully it's a little cooler than that. My son has something going on Saturday at about noon but after that I hope to be in the blind that evening. We went and shot today. His first shot with the Rossi mini loader was right in the bull. Bring on the deer. Will check the cam one more time this week to see where we will hunt next weekend. Would really like to see him kill one on the property we just bought in January.

The forecast for up here is 80+ with thundershowers not to mention the hordes of skeeters. I think were going to sit this one out.

At those temps it would be ideal to sit over some water. You have to be out there to have a chance. I wish you the best.

Wouldn't matter if it was 95°. I have a 7 year old ready to go and tells me so everyday. Too late to change the plans now. I don't expect it to be very comfortable.

"The youth’s adult partner must be in close enough proximity to monitor and be able to communicate with the youth hunter at all times. The adult may help the youth hunter with calling game but may not carry a firearm, crossbow, or bow and arrow, except for a handgun carried lawfully. The adult must possess a valid hunting license, unless exempted from needing a license."

We were planning on going out, but I think we are gonna wait. Dad's place is usually better from the end of October on any how. Plus it'll give us more practice time with the cross bow and .44 mag.

We will be out this weekend. Hope it is safe and successful for everyone.
P.S. I had to laugh when I just looked at my profile pic. I think that was from our first youth hunt in 2013. Doesn't seem like that long ago, but now he is almost taller than me. That 44 mag will still be with us!

Be sure to bring your thermosell or plenty of sketter spray. Good luck Dads and young guns.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely planning on taking the Thermacell (watch me forget it now!). At least the rain chances are diminishing for Sunday now.

The firearm collection has grown since then, but we both still like to shoot it. Just something about the thump it makes. We did a marksmanship class not long after, and at the end we did a fun shoot with the instructor's AR at 100 yards on steel. He let us shoot it with the Handi Rifle as well. One shot hit the chain and obliterated it. His comment was something to the effect of "you would never see a 223 do that!"
