Hunted Deer Creek yesterday and today on a draw hunt. Ten draws with each able to bring a partner, so twenty possible hunters. My hunting partner (Nathan) and I were the only ones that showed. Saw deer both days. Today I ranged two at 222 yards. Nope, not with my muzzle loader. Nonetheless it is a real nice property. Great access. You can walk 200 yards or 5 miles. Yesterday I hunted the NW corner. I was on a corn field and then a cover crop radish field. Some radishes were the size of my forearm. Lots of significant deer signs. Today the SW corner when I saw two at 222 yards. Why no harvest? Weather was way too nice. Got rained on yesterday. Wish it was snow. Today was sunny and real nice. Second, no pressure. They don't move much. Third, significant heavy cover. Fourth. ample food, still. We will still go back next year and hope for cold nasty weather so they get out of bed!

Maybe they were all sleeping on the prison property, not sure I figured once the frost lifted we would see some. I saw three yesterday at different times but had the Xbow of course when I'm equipped to play rough no one wants to tango.

First time out since last Friday, same stand again. Planned to get out a couple times but just got too busy. Of course the 10 was on camera for the first time in daylight..644 Sunday morning, I was sleeping. Another borderline 8 730am Monday morning, think I was taking the kid to school about then. Not a deer on it since though..

18 tonight in corn field. Cold has brought on the need to eat. Find a food source and sit on it.

There were 2 in the field around 4pm central when my friend took me to his mom's house to show me the property.

It is a great spot for firearm or muzzleloader. Now I just need a cheap muzzy, like one that is $0 retail value.

2 antlerless tonight. Stayed around me the last 45 minutes til I pushed them out to go warm my feet up. Stayed within 40 during that time but could only catch glimpses of body parts here and there, thick.

I checked my trail camera and all the pictures are at night except for yesterday at 9:21 am. Deer every night passing down my bottom lane. No bucks, only does. Bucks must be laying low and or moved back to the closed golf course or the apple/peach/honey farm next to the golf course. Mega deer haven area.

It is a great spot for firearm or muzzleloader. Now I just need a cheap muzzy, like one that is $0 retail value. This year is probably out unless you borrow one. I'm more than willing to loan one, but you're on the other end of the state from me. Every week, take $5 and put it away. Savings account, cookie jar, mattress, or gun barrel. It doesn't matter, just put it somewhere you won't use. By next year when the muzzleloaders hit store shelves again you'll have enough to cover the gun and all the necessary accessories. I know Walmart might not seem like the best place to buy a gun, but the CVA Wolf is a solid functioning gun. Personally, I hunt with a Navy Arms Country Boy that I paid $135 for about 20 years ago. It's a bit worn, but it still functions and holds 2" groups at 200 yards. If you have another dream muzzleloader in mind adjust the savings accordingly. Just a thought. If you can give up a couple McRibs a week you won't even notice the missing money. Good luck.

We saw no deer and heard no shots today at Muscatatuck.
One would have to be a hunter to understand how one could sit all day in the woods and not see at thing with cold toes and still have an absolute blast! I had so much fun and mostly, because of the company I had. I have made a new friend. Deerhunter23 is a great guy and a vet!

I forgot my phone today, so I couldn't be live with you fellas.
The day was not totally uneventful. I had just worked my bleat call when I heard movement coming my way, right towards me at a good clip. I peered in the direction only to see an orange hat coming at me. No vest, no coat, no gun, but he was in a hurry. I said, "Hello" to let him know that I was just in front of him. He replied, "Hey." and took a sharp right turn.
I was down wind of him and it didn't take long to know that he was in a hurry to find the sheeting place. After getting a whiff, and thinking about him on a bee-line towards me, I started to worry that I might be sitting in his desired location.
I've been sitting in a desired hunting spot when one went by, but this is the first that the spot was desired for something else.
Anyone joining after last deer season will not know about the sheeting place.

Jon what did you think of Refuge yesterday? We hunted it today, and did like the place a lot, but saw no deer and heard no shots.

I am considering going next Friday to try for a stand-by draw. I have hunted Muscatatuck several times and never had much luck, but I am "bucked out" and it is a cool place.
