Unless the deer runs a long way before dropping my longest drag would be about 150 yards to where I can get my 4Runner to it.
If they make it to the stripper pit spoil banks I'd have to get help. There are two friends (with ATVs) within a couple miles of where I hunt that would be happy to help me..
My crossbow buck last year fell over about ten yards from the rock road we drive in on. Woodmaster and a couple friends came up for the trailing job. It would have been a snap to load by myself.
I have a hand winch in my 4Runner and a couple loading ramp type boards. Put the loading boards down, Hook the winch cable to the rack and crank him right on in.
It works quite well...

Nice looking cart and deer. I was lucky last year, a couple of deer I shot only went a few yards and still in the field for easy recovery.

Drag until I'm exhausted. Pause. Repeat.
Bought the wife a game cart for this year as we may hunt separately on the same property so we'll see how that plays out.

Depends where it's at. Most areas it's just a drag, if there's any kind trails I'll use my deer cart as much as I can. I've yet to find an easy way out of the spoil banks, I quartered a doe in the woods last year that was deep in them.
Much easier to carry a deer out in pieces than up and down spoils.

I said I carry them over my shoulder but I do dragging usually. This may be my first year killing one really deep in the woods. My plan is rope and breaks.

Rather than make four trips I think I would butcher it there in the woods & just pack the meat out. That is if it is not too hot. Or you haven't just shot the buck of a lifetime.

Kabota front end loader or 4 wheeler seem to work pretty good

I've got a Ford 1520 4 wheel drive tractor with front end loader and hayforks on the back (holds a pallet easily) that I can generally get pretty close to whenever we happen to drop a deer in our woods....I've called it my deer recovery vehicle more than once!! It's 1991 model and has probably hauled well close to a hundred deer out in that time! I just call DADFSR. Helped me twice in 3 days two years ago.

I depends on where I'm at and what I have handy. I've got a two wheel deer cart and I'm not too impressed with it.
I use a wheel barrow a lot in HNF.
Use a tractor. Drive the truck out as close as I can get it.
I don't get too hung up on it once it's dead just get it out. What ever it takes.

He got lucky the second time because I was just bringing the tractor back from my brother-in-laws place and it was already loaded on the trailer. If your number doesn't show up in my contact's list the call won't get answered....unless some one other than a machine leaves me voicemail!!!! I'd much rather be on the list that people think they owe me a favor than the other way around....plus it's always fun getting a NICE buck out of the woods no matter who's it is!!!

I use a 4 wheeler,I only hunt private property and before I even go I make sure the land owner doesn't mind. I wouldn't make it 20 yards trying to drag 1 anymore.

If I had to I would drag one out, but only at a last resort.

Turns out a quartered deer can somewhat fit in my groundblind carry bag. I walked out to my truck first to try and figure out what to do and make a couple phone calls. Luckily I saw that, dumped the blind out and went back in the woods. Got her out in 1 trip with a break or 2 in the process.
