Hunter most of my life, now find for the first time ,no place to hunt. I really would like a place to Bow/Firearm hunt. If you can point me in the right direction. Thanks

Look in the Southeast portion of Indiana some really good properties available for lease. Madison Newspaper has listings.

I HATE that word "Lease"! There will come a day when only the rich will be able to hunt.

I hate the word lease as well. I would dress nice and present myself in a nice manner and just go knock on some doors. You might make a new farmer or land owner friend. Be sure to offer some help or take a gift when you gain permission.

I HATE that word "Lease"! There will come a day when only the rich will be able to hunt. You`re exactly right. Even thought the wildlife belongs to everyone in the state, the affluent will soon become the only one`s who will have access to them. Unless you hunt crowded public land, which isn`t safe, and probably isn`t close enought to you to make hunting there practical. When leasing becomes the norm, we all lose, and our DNR is doing nothing.

Take a look at all of the forest properties around Bloomington ( Morgan-Monroe State Forest, Hoosier National Forest, and Yellowwood State Forest). There are hundreds of acres available with good access. Good luck!

Although, I hate the idea of leasing as well, I think it is a reality. I do plan on asking for permission as well.
On a sidenote, is public hunting worth the risk in Indiana? Especially during gun season I have heard of hunters being stacked up next to each other. I don't want to go tracking my deer and run the risk of getting shot.

Go more than 500 yards from your truck and you'll probably be the only one there . Seriously .

My buddies & I have been hunting the HNF for 25 years now, in the same spot. In the approximate square mile area we hunt, we never see another bow hunter. This is probably due to the fact that we park on a pulloff that is the only access to the area. The HNF is full of areas like this & with a little driving & lots of legwork. you should have no trouble locating a good spot to hunt, hoosiermatt
