I used to have a cabin near Dugger. There was roughly 30,000 acres of public ground within about a 20 minute drive. I think the state is going to lose quite a bit of the ground in the near future because Peabody is selling a bunch of it to the highest bidder. I already know of about 500 acres they lost because of the mitigation streams the Army Core of Engineering require Peabody to build and maintain that replaces ditches that were taken do to strip mining. At the Dugger-Linton exit off of 41 about 3 miles east on the highway right after the raileroad track crossing to Linton is some ground that was public that now will never again be. IU owns some of this ground on the south side of the highway, but allowed Peabody to build these streams on their ground. Seen some very nice deer in this area while working there in the past.

I hunt 62.5 acres in Blackford. It's some of the thickest stuff I've ever seen. Place hasn't been touched since my Grandpa passed away so were talking 20+ years of growth. It's also got a 2.5 acre pond on it. Love that place

Who's got the deep pockets to afford the land? Evidently not the state of Indiana which is really a shame

Looks like a mixture of small parcels to large acreage. I prefer to hunt the small tracts.

I hunt a public spot that is a little over 2000 acres but I have made a spot of less than one acre work because it was a pass through between two larger parcels of dense woods.
