I saw one this evening, but couldn't get a shot at him. I think he actually disappeared, beamed up or something like that. Yea they tend to do that... I believe the grey tailed squirrel I got today is an eastern grey. Mostly fox squirrel around here. The greys in the city don't look like this.

I spent too much time putting up two deer stands and only hunted a little this evening. No squirrels to take.

One to add for Team 3. Slept in Saturday because the Weather Channel said it was raining. Woke up and everything was dry, so I gathered everything and headed out. Super windy and was lucky to find two in the same Hickory. Shot this guy out and a minute later the other started moving again. It grabbed another nut and headed for home. As I saw it get to the fourth tree away I could hear the downpour!! I was pretty wet by the time I got back to the truck, but at least I finally got out and got something!

Went to the woods, this am, on what has to be the most beautiful day of the season, so far. Saw 6 [heard more cutting]. Got shots at 3, and managed to bring 2 home. Score 2 more for team #1 LCB. maddog

2 more for Squirrel Team 6 both for Adam; only took a pic of one because the other had way too much mange to bring back to the homestead.

After four trips to the woods, the fifth time was a charm. Score 2 greys for team number 6 THE squirrel squad by the Schoolmaster. I had just about everything go wrong that could until today. The most unsuccessful week I have ever experienced. But I saw two this afternoon and got both of them after my gun misfired on two this morning. Maybe the jinx is broken.

I finally got to the woods with a rifle to actually hunt. A troublesome tradition has continued and my first shot of the year was a clean miss. The little bugger simply turned around and kept eating. That was his mistake. His buddy switched sides of the canopy and moved right into the opening I was under. It seems I just grazed him because he came screaming down the tree right at my face. Needless to say I didnt get a second shot. He hit the ground and ran for a downed tree. I couldn't keep up and was not going to stick my hand in the holes looking for him.
Woody, please score 1 for team 8.

Chalk up 1 more for team #1 LCB. Another beautiful morning in the woods. Saw 4, but only got a shot at this one. nfalls116, that squirrel carrier is basically an end off a fish stringer, attached to a dowel rod. The long stick is a combination of a shooting stick and a walking cane. It's handy to put the carrier on the shooting rest, instead of laying it down on the ground. Here's a closeup pic, although a little fuzzy. Woody, this brings my total to 4 so far. Pretty slow start. maddog

I agree the cover is one of the thickest I seen in the last 30 years. I wish I could get out more on the cooler late summer days for squirrel hunting. Might have to take a day off the next cooler couple days!

I think I'll take the grandson hunting tomorrow. LOL We wanted to go today, but it was too late when I got permission to take him to my plot woods. My landowner is going to let him hunt with me. He's excited. He's never shot anything. I'm going to show that boy the good life.

My landowner has never wanted me to bring anyone there, so I am really pumped.
