With the recent liberalization of the antlerless permits and allowing bowhunters to use them in early archery could spell some change in strategy for some us.
Anyone making any "harvest plans" changes on what to take and when?

no not really...........
the main area im in has a high concentration of does (or so i think from observation).....................
so i dont have to worry about "taking" anything away when the rut comes upon us.
if anything, id think that it would make me feel more free to take an animal when the right opportunity presents itself................
no more saying "geez, if i take one now, and then a buck.............then ill have to wait till December"......................and "like" scenarios.

Yes and no . Last year I passed on all bucks because the counties that I hunt in are overrun with does IMO , and the change to reduction counties proves it . This year I'll be doing the same , but since the doe bag is so liberal I may take a buck if he looks edible enough . I won't lose any sleep if I don't get one though , it's just not that important to me . My main focus , since I won't be hamstrung by buying another house will be doe meat in the freezer .

I plan on taking an extra doe or two in early archery if I can but other than that the overall bag limit for the two counties I hunt haven't changed.

In my area you always get a buck tag with your licence. But there is so many Deer they have additional tags for does, for purchase. So I hunt one wmu for the Buck, then I get doe tags for another wmu and focus first on the Buck, then I have lots of time to harvest does. In my area you are allowed up to 6 doe tags on top of the buck tag. This is all Archery only area.

I plan on taking as many does as will give me shot oppurtunities. I feel somewhat responsible to do this because I was one that had been whining ( ;D ) about not being able to use the bonus tags in early archery. Now that we can, I plan on taking full advantage of this.
In the past I have let many does walk by in the early season after filling one of my archery tags with a doe the first week of early archery...no longer. I may have to change my screen name to "doe killa". ;D
Sidenote that I thought of when I read this thread..... Does anyone think that by killing does in the early season it may make those bucks search harder and move around more to find a hot doe?

Wow Woody...you are quick. LOL I have actually heard two schools of thought...one I already mentioned in my post above, and the other says to NOT kill does in the early season because you want them to bring in the bucks. I personally feel that killing does in the early season makes more sense...JMO. Plus, it's not like I could ever really make a dent in the doe population in Dearborn county.

Back some number of years ago we had a case of EHD aka blue tongue in my area and a bunch of does died off in September.
That was the HOTTEST rut I have ever seen later on...
BTW - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

The main areas I hunt have a lot of does! I will take a shot at any I see in the early season. I want to see buck movement like I did two years ago. Last year the woods were very quite until the late season...

Great move my the IDNR! Down in Southeast Indiana where I hunt they were doing special reduction hunts on does. (passing out doe tags to certain people to take does off landowner property at night using artificial lights and rifles) This is of course all under wraps. I don't know who "they" are. Maybe the local warden. I just heard this from a landowner/hunter down there. I did see a lot more bucks than usual. Maybe it wasn't such a bad thing

Is this supposedly happening at this time of the year? If so some antlerless bucks will be getting banged too.
