Does or has anyone used a squirrel call? Just wondering if they work before I go buy one.

Save your money. Just slip into a squirrel rich environment, sit down and wait about twenty minutes. Don't shoot the first one you see. Get a visual on three or four then pick them off

I've never had luck calling squirrels to me, but I have had luck stopping them for a shot using them. I use the bellow type that you tap to create a barking sound. While keeping an eye on the moving squirrel I tap it against my leg a few times. Often they'll freeze to check it out

I picked up on a trick years ago. When you see or hear one in the top of a tree that is very thick with foliage, get your firearm in the ready to shoot position and make kissing sounds on the back of your hand. Have brought many out of the tree tops and as far as down on the bare truck where they were totally in the open with the cross hairs dead on. Curiosity not only killed the cat, but many a squirrel. And you always have your call with you.

I Have a custom made Squirrel call. It's awesome and I feel like a squirrel When I use it. The squirrels don't seem to think I am any more than normal. But I love the call.

what tenring said. That kissing sound is better than all the manufactured calls. However, I do own one bellows call.....why, I don't know......

2 cents simple. Take two pennies and use one across the end of the other. It mimics the cutting sound of a squirrel chewing on an acorn or walnut.

I have killed quite a few tree chickens with a squirrel whistle.

What a person needs to do is go to a sporting goods dealer of your choice like Cabela's or Bass Pro on a busy Saturday after noon and try out all the squirrel calls, then tell the folks that are listening that your going squirrel hunting and ask them (DO I SOUND LIKE A NUT)?

YES, but you would blend right in with most of us, uh I mean THEM. Lol

I happened to be sitting in a tree stand one day, imagine that, and I noticed a squirrel about 10 feet away just come out on a limb and start barking like he was nuts. Well that's not completely out of the ordinary but he just kept on at for like 10 minutes it seemed and wasn't even looking at me. Shortly in to it I noticed another squirrel just a little further away had come out and joined him. WTH? Neither one looking at me. It's like I'm invisible.
I start looking around to see what has them going crazy and there's a cat on the ground that must have slipped in and just sitting there. Not moving a whisker and sitting on the ground.
I swear it, it was hardly no time at all and it seemed squirrels came out or came from all over and there was at least 7 or 8 squirrels intermittently taking up the call trying to drive this cat away and it just sat there not moving an inch.
Finally I decided to give 'em a hand since it seemed this was not helping my deer hunting. When I started trying to run the cat off they all ran back in their holes, but it gave me an idea I've never pursued. I've wondered ever since if you found a good squirrel spot if you took a stuffed cat or something close out there and sat it on the ground if squirrel would notice it and start making themselves easy targets.

Start barking and they come down to check out what is making the other squirrel bark. I guess I must have lost that call. Can't find it anywhere.

I have heard of this with two quarters and rub the ridged edge of one on the edge of the other, but not with coins with smooth edges. Never tried it though.

I meant two quarters and the Lincoln Memorial on the back side of the penny works. When I was a poor teenager I used it all the time. I know it works. My older brothers never understood how I was so lucky when we went out

NNever rubbed them. But if you put one flat in palm of hands and strike with edge of other....
I've found it easier to use nothing but my mouth. Tongue on roof of mouth to make a squirrel bark.
