The wife hooked into our biggest carp yesterday and got him to the bank but was having a hard time keeping him there so without thinking I grabbed the line with my bare hands to try and get him slid up the bank but he took off, cutting my hand with the line and breaking the line. She was tickled pink that she even hooked into it and got it to the bank, too bad we didn't have the landing net with us but we will for now on. I've been trying to catch 1 since last summer but haven't been lucky enough to,but I'm hoping that green worm she had on the hook with the night crawler was the reason he went for it because I'll be trying that 1 myself.

I hope your hand is okay. I just bought a net last week for an Ohio river catch fish or carp fishing trip down in Patriot, IN.

Get yourself a can of sweetcorn, thread it on a hook, put on a small weight, lay it on the bottom, you will catch carp.

It still bothers me some, the other hand didn't even get cut but it's sorer than the 1 that did, beats me why,but I'll live. This is my 2nd net by the way,the 1st one broke trying to pull out a dead carp when I lost most of my fish during the hard winter a few years ago.

Grass Carp don't do a good job of Filamentous Algae (FA) control unless there aren't any other plants in the pond. Eat something or die I guess.
Tilapia do a much better job of FA control, but since they are a warm water fish and don't live through the winter they need to be restocked every year. They need to be stocked at the rate of 40# per surface acre when water temps are 60°F and above.

There's not any other plants in the pond that I know of,except cattails. They do a decent job of keeping it clean but I think the aerator helped some too,not sure. This is the first year I have had no moss on top but everybody else around here does,I see some on the rocks on the bottom but it's not top to bottom like 2 years ago.

The aerator helps the bacteria at the bottom of the pond utilize the nutrients in the pond, and the Triploid Grass Carp are most likely eating the algae due to no other plants in the pond too. It's really about nutrient management and not plant/algae management. One pound of phosphorous can grow 500 pounds of algae if there is sufficient Nitrogen in the pond.

Grass carp taste as good as Walleye can't hardly tell apart except for the big bones

Looking good. In the first pic with the cat, I thought you had a painting of a big buck rack on your shirt at first glance. Lol
