LBL has a lot of turkeys. But they get a lot of hunting pressure. You must buy a hunting license and an LBL Permit if you want to hunt in LBL.

You can apply for the quota hunts, they actually let you hunt LBL before the Statewide Opening season.I hunted LBL for many years...I've taken a lot of birds off LBL..but I no longer hunt it, and haven't for 5 years. The birds are there, but very little calling is needed, smart birds down there...they get hunted hard..if you can kill a bird in LBL you can kill one anywhere....ask Harold Knight, i watched an interview with Harold one time, they asked where are the toughest birds to kill?...he said hands down LBL, KY are the hardest birds to call and kill he's ever hunted.

You probably know this but Harold Knight grew up in the area that is now known as Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. He still lives very close to LBL near Barkley Lake. He has tons of great farms to hunt in the area.
There are some big changes coming for deer hunting in LBL also. The deer population in LBL is down a lot from what it used to be. Starting next season it's very likely that the deer season in LBL is going to be shorter, and/or LBL bucks are potentially no longer going to be bonus bucks.
If any of you are wanting to hunt public land in Kentucky, honestly a lot of the smaller wildlife management areas offer easier turkey hunting in many cases. The turkeys at many of the KY wildlife management areas can often be easier to locate and pattern since they often live in smaller areas of cover. LBL is 170,000 acres, over 90% of LBL is forest. So locating and patterning turkeys can be very difficult in LBL.
