I thought the appropriate line would be "HEY HOLD MY BEER"

I'm really somewhat surprised they can even legally sell this stuff. Gives me the creeps seeing someone mixing parts A & B together, wondering if there might be an accidental discharge. No doubt someone with ill intent could also make some pretty wicked IED's with this stuff as the explosive charge.

Several years ago, at a rather large shoot for one of the Indiana gun forums, we took 5 pounds of tannerite and duct taped it to 5 gallons of gas and stuck it in a car. The sunroof went 200 feet in the air. We were over 100 yds away when we shot it.

I didnt know that at the time, this picture was the first experience with it. This same group of guys have now done this with 6 or 7 cars, though this was the only one gas was used. Anywhere from 120-170 yards with no issues. Im not saying that it is ok to do it at that range, just more so posting to illustrate the damage it can do. But their recommendations are also to cover their butts. 25 yards is just idiotic.

Here is what 1lb just sitting on a piece of c-channel can do. That's 3/8" thick by 8" wide with a 1 1/2" flange. We even put a basket ball on top with a cardboard tube as a spacer to see if it would launch it or not. Well it launched it about 50 feet up but had a hole in it big enough to put your head thru and it was turned inside out.

No doubt someone with ill intent could also make some pretty wicked IED's with this stuff as the explosive charge. It would have to be something akin to a bullet hitting it to make it blow up. Its very stable as I understand it. Haven't any first hand experience though.....yet.

I think the article said it ignites when impacted by a bullet traveling at least 3,000 FPS, thats not true. My guess is 2,200 will set it off.

Tannerite is very safe for people with common sense. I've used it a few times with good results. It's cheap entertainment.
