My sister stopped by today and showed me a few things she had found walking up the creek bed on our property. She had a beautiful spear point with a long base. It's bigger than any other point we have found. It's in really good shape and has stripes running through the rock. The other object is a mystery. It's fairly heavy and has a triangle shape with a knuckle socket shaped base. It comes to a sharp point. I've never seen a bone shaped that way before. It almost looks like a fossilized claw or something. Anybody have any info on the point or mystery object?   |

After doing some searching online that looks like a deer toe bone. It's awful heavy for bone.

That point is a dandy. Nice find.
I used to hunt plowed fields for artifacts, have found plenty in wash outs while hunting, but I have never found any in dry creeks or in creeks. Many years of my life have been spent in creeks and dry creeks either fishing, trapping or working at idem...found a hog tusk some odd ball things but never a stone point or artifact.

We have found quite a few points in the dry creek bed on our property. It's probably less than 200 yards long. That is by far the biggest point we have found. Usually we find smaller points less than 1.5" long.

Hard to say, but it looks like a shark tooth. It wouldn't surprise me if you found one in a creek bed - there is a road cut through along 37 where people go to find shark teeth and other fossils after a healthy rain event.
and it's probably no older than ~500 million years. Fish aren't found in the fossil record until the Ordivician. They sure didn't exist 1 billion years ago in the Precambrian.

Hard to say, but it looks like a shark tooth. That was my first impression too, I have some ranging up to Megalodon size. |
