Is this the future of hunting in Indiana? This piece of property being offered up for lease is part of a large block of the former Minehaha FWA sold to a wealthy land owner who lives in Terre Haute. He has leased the whole thing... Now available for lease for $45/acre!! This is not prime land as you might find in Buffalo Co, WI or Pike county, IL. It's all spoil bank coal hills! Used to be open for any one to hunt and fish on, watch wildlife, pick morels, etc. Now access comes with a laughable high price-tag. What a shame! www.basecampleasing.com/6961/Sullivan-County-Indiana-Hunting-Lease.html We are quickly moving to the European model of hunting and fishing in this country. The whole 12,500 acres will soon be closed to the IN public who enjoy hunting, fishing, and wildlife watching forever. www.mywabashvalley.com/news/minnehaha-fwa-closing

What's the problem? It's his property, he ought to be able to build on it, hunt himself on it, lease it out, log it, or whatever else is legal.
If the lease rate is too high, like you are implying, then he won't be able to lease it. If he gets it leased at that rate, then obviously somebody thinks it is a fair deal to pay that much to have all to themselves.

Peabody coal in not doing well. Selling off land all over. DNR had the chance to buy 8000 acres of this property.
This is after they put in a ton of gas wells on this property....

If the lease rate is too high, like you are implying, then he won't be able to lease it. If he gets it leased at that rate, then obviously somebody thinks it is a fair deal to pay that much to have all to themselves. Had to deal with that company and a lease next to us on the old farm for years. I suppose that company is not the worst in the world but if I had to describe them in one word it would be d-bag. As long as you flash the cash they don't care who they rent too and my god they are certainly entitled about the whole thing. Not impressed with the clientele they leased to, how they treated us as neighbors and the fact that they let them continue to lease even after problems arose that were disturbing us. A few examples over the years: Waking my mother up at 3 am with their truck headlights and banging metal around, using our driveway to access the property because they are too lazy to carry the stand from their proper access point. Several bait stations placed in the woods and left there all season with blinds 20 yards away from them. One incident in where a buck had his hind legs shot off at the hocks, ran 1/2 a mile on the font end like he was sitting, dragging the bloody stumps of the back end, slamming into a gate of one of our horse feed lots and also nearly impaling itself on one of my show horses. Horse tore itself up clearing the fence to get away from the deer. Fella never did come to pick up the deer or come forward on that one... I also have suspicions the people on the lease were the ones who rigged one of my tree stands to fall by slicing the ratchet straps on the top. After having to live next to a hunting lease for practically all of my childhood, I can honestly say I am not a fan of the practice/industry and the types of people it seems to attract who purchase these leases.

why would they care who leased it? They get their money, do the paperwork, and they are done.
Trespassing problems on a lease? Good luck.
they won't even get return emails, let alone get involved.
Check out archerytalk.com. Lots of stories like yours when dealing with this company.
