I counted 40 plus deer last night in the neighboring alfalfa field. It is a huge field but still the most deer i have seen in a while. I don't know where they came from and was amazed to see that many as I had a very difficult time seeing them this year. It was promising and frustrating at the same time. It as if they knew they were safe. I definitely was surprised but at the same time it renewed hope for next year. Time to look for some sheds in a few weeks or so and hopefully next year they will venture a little further my way.

It happens every year all over the state. That is why we have deer to hunt the next season, season after season.

Yep, one of the spots that we hunt in Brown Co. is covered in them as well. Just talked to them yesterday.

This just reaffirms my position that most of the crying regarding deer numbers is unfounded. Just because people aren't seeing deer while on stand doesn't mean they aren't around. I saw a couple of large groups while driving home yesterday evening.

My wife took the dogs out to tinkle as few minutes ago and discovered that there were five young does in the yard. They did spook for a moment, but quickly settled down and watched her as they went back to eating. We have seen these same does crossing our driveway throughout the year, and they never ran except during deer season. They know when a threat exists.

They will be all piled into whatever location has some food. Very tough going for deer this time of year, not much available to eat, so they have to spend a lot of time at it and are more visible in broad daylight.
You can still see concentrations of deer like this when overall deer numbers are down. They will travel a good little way to get to this food, and other areas (where there is no winter food) may be nearly void of deer at this time.

Pulled my cam's y'day. Have set up on 3 feed station's/mineral lick sites. Have cam's set on 1 min. setting's and in 6 days had 1700 picture's. Have identified 4 different buck's in the 110-120 class range along with a handful of 1.2 yr. olds. Couldn't tell you how many antlerless but site's are spaced out over a 150 acre farm so best I can tell around 50-60 at a minimum. I start feeding around 1st December and will continue to run sites through mid summer. I start backing off the amount of feed dispensed late April. I feed a mixture corn, oat's and alfalfa pellet's. Also have mineral supplement available next to feeder's. You can tell a big difference in activity once temp's start dropping. I also locate the feed station's in existing food source's. One is in a harvested corn field, another in a alfalfa field and the other in a imperial whitetail clover field.

Driving through a subdivision near Hanover yesterday--- seven or eight does standing in a yard!!
Never see that many deer at one time in the woods. And this is Jefferson county.
The whole state is like jpg--- you might be in a promising spot, but there are lots of promising spots, and if the deer for whatever reason pick the spot a mile away, there isn't a lot you can do.

While some of the "crying" be "unfounded" on some properties, it is still warranted on mine. Cameras aren't showing much on my place. I've also gone out and sat on the field edges glassing a lot of the fields and still just a few does.

Doesn't appear to be many deer in my neighborhood. Will be interested to see county harvest numbers.

Glad others are seeing the herds though. Just need to try and improve my property. Hopefully the numbers will bounce back in a few years.
