I just know that I love eating them and baking with them. Last time I stopped at strack and vantil to buy some I was instantly mad at the price and said screw it, I'm planting my own!

Here's some benches he made and donated to the high school: He said he coated them with epoxy, not polyurethane.

I have 2 in my side yard which historically produced, however I had to cut one of them down this year. Had a bad spot in the base of it, sounded hollow when I thumped it with a hammer. Plus it was leaning towards the house. OH well I guess I get to look forward to splitting it this spring to burn next winter. I would like to plant a small grove of them though just to see if I can raise them until they produce. Just as a side note for all of you who use smokers-I've found pecan wood to probably be one of the best woods so far for putting in the smoker....puts out a lighter smoke flavor than hickory. My whole problem is that there are not a lot of pecans up in my area for me to get wood from. Sooo....Bartiks you may have a sought after commodity for those in the area with smokers! I've used the pecan hulls to smoke with as well. Turned out really well!
