Last night @ around 11:00 pm, I looked out my back door and saw about 10 deer picking around in a picked cornfield, 40 or so yards away.
I even stepped out on the back patio and they still just stood there.....

Seems like they came crawling out-of-the-woods, and are very visible now. Even had some come within a few yards of my home.

After countless discussions and conversations on some Facebook sites and such.....it appears this article I wrote all the way back before Christmas of 2015 STILL holds relevancy to now. Incredible really to think many still refuse to acknowledge all the factors which go into what they are or are not seeing.

I think something else to consider is that some hunters tend to take what they see in their 40 acre woodlot and try to speak for the herd of their entire county or even all of indiana. While numbers may be low on their property the neighbor down the road may have plenty of deer, depending on a variety of factors. We should also remember that the population can upswing quickly if need be, as long as the habitat is there

We should also remember that the population can upswing quickly if need be, as long as the habitat is there Here are a couple good ones from FB.. I Love this quote - " Just because you see deer doesn't mean the herd is up lol wow!"........ Can we flip that? "Just because you dont' see deer doesn't mean the herd is down lol wow!" It is all what you say darinfly - All I can say about is what I see in my location.. I would never speak for anyone else's area. The same guy that made the statement above started a poll with "Is your county's herd up, down or stable"? I would not answer as I do not hunt my entire county and have no way of knowing. Nobody does. Then there is this one - That's as good as saying "the DNR can't use harvest data to estimate population" then the same people say, "the harvest is down so population is down"

Biggest issue in my neighborhood without question is habitat loss. Deer don't do well in bare chisel plowed corn / bean fields.
Anyplace there is some habitat there are some deer. However, the hunters are crowding what little habitat is left.

Honestly, this thread is OLD (2015) and I wanted to more so bring it back for the one that claimed in ten years we wouldn't have deer....but your thought shared is a massive hurdle for many to get over in their skull. Acres and acres of ag fields IS NOT deer habitat. Those acres are VOID of deer habitat the majority of the year. There is no reason outside of a food source and cover (depending on crop) for a few months out of the year - they have no business being their otherwise nor should.
