I do like where I live now. It's out in the country, but we are still in a neighborhood. Fishing and hunting is literally minutes from my door if I choose. Do also have some land to fish and coyote hunt that is close. It's all about to get better though, because are in the process of purchasing a little plot of land in Brown County to get a little farther south and away from the neighborhood we live in now. Gonna be nice when it's done, but probably a little stressful until then. I deal with the 100+ mile daily round trip to go to work knowing what I am driving back home to. You will be really close to God's country there. Very happy for you. Tell Eli that it was very nice to meet him. He's a fine young man; someone has been doing a good job raising him.

We've got a pretty sweet set up. Live on the farm where my grandmother was born and has been in the family for over 100 years. It's 140 acres of combination CRP, habitat plantings, food plots and woodlots all set up for hunting and outdoor recreation, nothing left in row crops.
There are two ponds, one of which is full of big bluegill and bass, and we have killed some bruiser bucks on the place over the years. The terrain is such that I can safely shoot centerfire rifles 3-400 yards out back and I've shot coyotes and ground hogs right off the deck. Can also pick mushrooms, berries, hunt rabbits, squirrels, raccoon and the occasional pheasant or quail. Some turkeys have started showing up in recent years.
The house is back a long lane off the road and we have screened things from view with trees and plantings, so lots of privacy. We've got the house remodeled pretty nice with a big deck, a real nice shop building and a couple out buildings. Keeping up with chores requires lots of work, but it is work that I enjoy for the most part. Looking forward to retirement in a few years to take on some bigger projects.
My only beef about the place is that it has gotten a bit too crowded in the neighborhood, and a whole lot of habitat in the neighborhood has been destroyed by clean farming methods in my lifetime, so the neighborhood isn't as scenic or quiet as it used to be. We're not going anywhere.

I'm happy living in rural Pike county near the tiny (dot on the map) town of Coe. I don't actually live in town but not to far from HWY 61 out in the old coal mine stripper pits. I can walk to many of my hunting areas and use the three wheeler if I want to get there quicker. Deer , turkeys, fishing, and mushrooms what more could a man want.

No, not really. I live in a Suburb on the North side of Indy, its ok. I was fortunate enough to buy a little chunk of land in Parke county about 15 years ago. Its 1 hr 5 minutes from door to door. There, I can walk out onto my porch and hear the Turkeys gobbling or watch the deer graze in my yard in the evenings. I can grab the kids, some fishing poles, and 200 yards later we're fishing for smallies on Sugar creek. I love it! But, I would much rather reside on the S/W Florida gulf coast or somewhere near the Keys. I love the ocean! There is just something about being on a boat a few miles off shore that smells like freedom! I could always take vacation and come back to Indiana for the hunting seasons. Some day.

I think I hunted near there a few times, back in the early 1980's. Is this area of yours near Sugar Ridge F&W area??

One area of SRFW is probably a couple mile from me. It's pretty rough hunting mostly old spoil banks and very heavy cover. I'm actually about 3 miles north west of what people used to call Enos Corner or the road that takes you back to what was Old Ben Coal Company.

The area I use to hunt (starting in 1979 to 1990) was located East of Oakland City, owned by a local Farmer and sold to a Coal Company called Black Foot. The State did some recovery work on this area, as it was fairly ruff there too; but when it was finished the area was taken over by a Hunting Club. So I started to hunt on a Farm, owned by Friends, in Kentucky, where there were far more Deer. Had a small area where I hunted Deer near my Evansville home, did fairly well there too with NO other Hunters allowed other than myself.
