Only one sure way to be safe in a drive and that is guns in a straight line and shoot nothing untl it goes through the line and one shoots behind, as is the case on many wild boar shoots in europe. regards Billy

This also happens on some red grouse shoots here because grouse fly fast and low, the guns shoot in front until the keeper blows his whistle or horn, from then on guns can only shoot behind, because the beaters that drive the grouse are getting close.
How fast is a red grouse, well when i tell you a man used to bring his wife and he was a top grouse shot. Every drive they got in the butts his wife went out with a white hankerchief and laid it down WAY out in front. As soon as the first bird in a covey crossed that hanckerchief the gentleman fired and dropped his first bird in front. One day i took my leup rangefinder and i measured that hanky it was 110yds out in front. Now that bird flew into his shot everytime, lol I degress but never mind, memories memories.
