Two of my son's 3 deer this year have been checked in before they ever got in the truck. The other was a longer recovery and still came in a little under 4 hrs. That was found, field dressed, drug to the truck, drivin home and rinsed out.
With the talk of "people have up to 48 hrs to check them in" I'm just wondering who actually uses that time.

Now that we've gone to all-online checking of game, I've forgotten to check them in right away. Getting online is just not a part of my post-harvest routine. I taken 3 deer this year, and all of them have been checked-in beyond 24 hours after harvest.

Also known as those who dont partake in web forums and therefore wont see this .....
I check in mine about 5 minutes after im standing over it. That might be hours after ive shot it but considering I have no way of determining actual time of death in all cases I still consider it within minutes of killing it.

With the on-line check in system, I'll have it checked in before it's out of the woods.

I don't have a smart phone. Only a cheap kindle from school. So whenever I get to the Mcdonalds parking lot to use the free internet service.

As warm as it got yesterday I was more worried about taking care of the meat than I was taking the time to get it checked in....shot it a little before 8 AM and got it checked in online as soon as I got to work this morning at 6 AM. The head (that the bugs are now working on for a bare bone mount) still has the temporary tag attached to it. Even though if the weather is cooler I generally like to let them hang for a few days and would have got it checked in as soon as that was done-yesterday the rush was on to get de-boned, shoulders cut off and everything in the spare refrigerator in the basement. I can now take the time to get all the bits off that don't help the taste or texture before vacuum packaging. I haven't paid close attention in years, but I always thought they had to be checked in before processing could begin.
