Supposed to get pretty windy the next few days. With the rut where it's at, will the deer still be moving like they have been? Wondering what yalls opinions are..

Best rut action I've ever seen in Indiana was a maybe 4 years ago, maybe to the date. Had winds pushing 30 that day and my friend and I both had shooters in range chasing does on the same property, multiple other bucks cruising and I killed 2 does. Note that I shot the does before I realized bucks were everywhere.

Read a study on collered deer few years back on movement and wind speed. It stated that at 0 they moved x amount from 1-5 miles hr deer moved little less from 6-10mph little less 11-15 little less 16 -20 little less but the suprise was from 20 and above they moved as much as 1-5 mph. In all the years I been in the woods this has seamed to hold fairly true

Hunt when you can now regardless of conditions.

It seems a lot of younger or newer hunters don't seem to realize the most important reason us older guys incorporate at least one ground blind into our "stand" location arsenal.
It's completely about comfort. The blind allows us to stay out in the field in most all weather conditions. Btw.... at this particular time of year the deer, especially the bucks, do not care about the weather.

I can remember a torrential storm with heavy rain wind and quite a bit of lighting a few years ago. I saw two different good bucks chasing does. Wind will likely be a mental thing at this time of year as well as not making you sea sick in a stand.

Two years ago opening weekend brought the remnants of a hurricane. That Sunday morning was absolutely terrible. I got off work at 8 and met my daughter at camp about 8:30. By then a clear patch had come through so we headed to the blind. Just spending time together in the woods was the only thing I was planning. While watching a wooly worm make laps around the window a decent 3 year old snuck right in front at about 15 yards. I ended up shooting him because my daughter couldn't get a good angle.
It might take some time, but unless your house is in the woods, you can't kill one from the living room.

I have been known to hunt any weather BUT I will not hunt in lightning. Being tied to a tree in a metal stand does not seam like the place to be. Also if winds really stiff I will hunt a blind. There again do not want to be tied to a tree and have another one break and come thru the one I am in. THERE IS NO DEER WORTH DIEING FOR. Be safe in your decisions please Onebentarrow

I'll probably be in the stand I put up yesterday. I'll be taking my kid bil. I'll shoot for 1hr before shooting light and hope he is ready for it.

I have found over the years of Deer Hunting, that Deer are reluctant to move much during very breezy days. Best hunting can be found deep in the woods during windy days.

Sounds as if your hunt area lacked woods, or since it was the beginning of gun season, there were a lot of Hunters forcing Deer into open fields. I've never had any good luck tagging a Deer in such areas, when it's that windy.

Most of what I saw were bucks trolling or chasing does. All mid day too. Patch woods and river bottoms is about all we have.
My theory on deer and wind...they're safer away from the woods where their eyes can see danger their ears and nose can't. Or down in a holler where the wind isn't moving everything

Wasn't hardly anyone hunting due to the wind I wouldn't hunt in that windy condition either. On those type days, if cold, I found that evening hunt more productive if the wind stops.

I've seen deer many times on the downwind side of a woodlot in very windy conditions. They have nowhere to go so they must find what's usable to be comfortable. I have seen way more deer out in the fields then inside a woods during high wind.
