Started the morning off by jumping 2 deer walking in then as we were getting things situated in the stand another tail took off in the darkness within 30yds.
About 615 we heard a deer running in behind us but it stopped in some brush 30yds away where we couldn't see it. we slipped our facemasks up and wait about 5 minutes til the doe finally appeared to our right and turned walking towards us. She was a typical mature public land doe, she knew what a ladder stand was. She cautiously came our way, checking our stand every few steps. Finally as she went behind the last tree before our last opening I laid the crossbow on the rail and Becca got ready for the shot. She cleared the tree and Bec said Stop her dad, stop her! I waited and within a second or 2 the doe stopped on her own to look one more time and Becca put a bolt through both lungs. She took off with blood down her side and we heard the crash within seconds.
After our hugs and high fives we reloaded and waited to see what else might come by since we both have buck tags still. Not 20minutes pass and I see a deers body coming over the hill to our right. I tell Bec and then see its got some antlers, too. Hes 45yds and closing so I ask Bec which lane she wants to shoot him in and she said she wanted the lane after he passes our stand just like the doe. We ready the crossbow as he comes into the open and catches the does trail. He paused, let out a couple grunts and started down her trail. When he cleared the last tree I let out a soft grunt and after what seemed like an eternity, Becca shot.
The shot looked good but the deer took a few bounds into a thicket then everything went silent, no crash. I got a little nervous so after a few minutes I eased down to check the arrows. It didn't take long to give her the thumbs up when I saw both bloody bolts 5ft apart with great blood trails going in opposite directions.
We waited about an hour and I let Becca trail them but it honestly wasn't very hard to do. Both deer ran less than 50yds with double lung shots.
Couldn't be more proud of that little girl. Shes 10 years old now in her 4th deer season. Those were deer #6 and #7 and her 3rd buck, all on public ground.
