Same jealousy appeared over the Morgantown buck, so what else is new considering Horn Porn? I remember it well... A certain individual and group declared it a "world record" and away it went. They drove it underground and the kid finally told them he traded it for a pick up truck and ATV... That got them off his back.. Buuuuttttt.. I've heard he didn't trade. Just a smoke screen to get rid if everyone..

Yet another reason why baiting just needs to be legalized, especially minerals. For all we know someone dumped them there years ago. Perhaps this is the next agenda we need to bring forward to the DNR.
Expect this kind of nonsense to just get worse and worse.
It's great to be all holier than thou about this baiting nonsense... until it's your turn to be put in the frying pan.

Apparently the Iowa DNR took soil samples from the farm the deer was killed on....
So.....
Is a landowner responsible for a mineral site that the previous owner put out as Franz's attorney apparently suggests from the quote below...
"There's also no wording about time periods in the law, said defense lawyer Trever Hook. Because minerals seep into the ground, a hunter could face prosecution for pursuing deer in a tract of land where a previous landowner placed a salt block that's no longer visible, he said."
Or is this a witch hunt started by a jealous hunter who perhaps used to hunt the 80 acres that Franz had purchased the previous June and either knew of the bait site or maybe put it there himself @ some time?
Or...did Franz put out a bait pile, knowingly hunt over it and is now trying to squirm his way out of trouble with the DNR?
Or...is there nothing here and the Iowa DNR is just acting on a tip?
Should be interesting.....

While I don't agree with blatant baiting (food plots?) I do think that common sense needs to apply. The tenant farmer of a property that I hunt always spills a lot of corn. He dump truck leaks and drops a pile where the access lane cuts through the woods. Every year, same place. I could hunt near that pile and probably shoot at least one doe daily util all of the spillage is gone. I choose not to because I don't want to be in an unfavorable situation with the law.
Other that someone witnessing an individual dumping a bag of corn or bucket of apples, what exactly is baiting? If there is not an accusing eye witness, how is baiting proven? If I hunt on public land without knowing that someone else buried a mineral block or other attractant near me, am I in trouble?

I mean before long if you set something out you will have to bring in a backhoe and dig down 3 feet to be confident that all traces are gone.
