I think I'm going to try this tomorrow. I found a spot while scouting the other day that's more of a dried up swampy area. This place is tore up with buck sign. The wind will be perfect for the area I found to sit. Only problem is there is really no trees to climb. So I'm siting on the ground for this one. Never done this before. Anybody have any pointers? Feel free to shoot em my way. I think the area I've got is tucked away and hidden pretty good. In the middle of 2 very large fresh scrapes..50yrds apart. Thought about taking my climber and standing it up in front of me for a little more concealment. Good idea or no ? Help me out fellas..

Crossbow or vetical? Since crossbows were legalized I almost exclusively hunt from the ground. Clear a bare spot of ground from noise making leaves and sticks so you can turn and spin without making noise. Make yourself comfortable against a tree and don't move. I use one of those camo cooler/buckets to sit on that has a swivel lid. They work great for me. Try and find a tree that has a base that lets you sit or stand against it comfortably.
Also, don't be afraid to knock down or break off a nuisance stick or sapling that will open up a shooting lane one direction or the other.
If your vertical hunting, a standing hunt is the best bet if you can handle standing for hours. If not, be prepared to stand as soon as you see or suspect a deer is nearby. If you can shoot a vertical while sitting then good for you, but I have to stand.

I shot my first buck laying in a dry creek bed resting my crossbow on the bank. It worked good.

As stated clear the area you will be standing of leaves and sticks. Play the wind and be patient. When on the ground it is easier to move when bored. Not a bad plan if you can still hunt. Have fun. I always enjoy still hunting.

Try and brush in behind you.

If hunting with a crossbow I wouldn't worry about brushing it in. If hunting with a vertical bow I would try to brush in both in front and behind. No matter what you decide the key is to limit any movement. This means getting comfortable and in a decent shooting position for the likeliest shooting lane. Look with your eyes and not your head and use your ears to locate deer. When hunting at eye level it's alot more exciting but, you get away with alot less movement. Good luck.
