Well today my car failed the emission test , even with a $280.00 tune up and me waiting almost 3 hours at the shop , I went there right after work , then drove around a while and took the car in for the test , WEEELLLLL to no surprise it FAILED by 0.05 , So I brought the car back to the shop and they couldn't UNDERSTAND WHY . Well I called my buddy and he said that's crazy , but suggested a NEW converter . I TAKE THE CAR TO THE MUFFLER WHERE THEY ACIDENTLY burn a hole in my GAS LINE , and of course a small FIRE brakes out under my car , Still no sleep 2:30 pm they are fixing that for free .

God speed to your repairs. Sometimes life is just no fun!!! A converter? That doesn't make sense. Just my opinion

The catalytic converter is the only emission part on my car that is 2 years old now , everything else is new . but when they were torch cutting the pipe the flame put a pin hole in the gas line .

Lake , Porter counties still have the Emissions test . My car FAILED . The part that FAILED read 0.99 when it should read 0.80 that was the first time I took the car in .the second time ( Today ) I Had a tune up done , drove around for 2 hours and did the test , the test read 0.85 instead of reading 0.80 . I brought the car back to the shop that did the tune up and all 3 mechanic's couldn't believe that the car didn't pass . so I called a buddy who was a mechanic and he said that the only thing that he could think of is the catalytic converter . Instead they burn a hole in my Gas line .

I thought it was a state test. I didn't know they went my county. Just move. LOL
If it's not one thing it's another. It never seems to end.
I remember when I was a kid, we just bought them without getting checked.

I worked at a Chevron station in California many moons ago, they also performed emissions tests. California has the strictest emissions testing in the US, so not surprisingly most cars failed the first try. When they did my boss would have someone hold down the gas pedal while he sprayed an entire can of carb and choke cleaner into the intake, then let it run at idle for a few minutes. He would then redo the emissions test, the cars almost invariably passed.

I retook the test for the 3rd time and passed , I had the converter changed and the car passed with flying colors . I do wonder why I need a tune up a converter every 2 years . And I took the car to a different emission testing station and they perform the testing a little different , and I told the young man who performed the test that and he was like really ? I told him when I go to the Hobart testing station I always fail and when I come here that I always pass . so now I know where I'm going for now on .

Sounds like the Hobart station may not be calibrating their equipment between tests, if they don't flush their lines between tests the next car won't pass. At the station where I worked they had to flush the equipment with an inert gas between tests.

Sounds like I would move to the next county to the south. What a pain to deal with this. Do you have to get it tested annually or what?
